On June 9th  I went to the Dr. with an what I thought infected left breast. (I was not aware of IBC at the time). I was a copy of the photos you see posted for IBC, swollen, redness from 9 to 1 on breast, nipple retraction, pain, she immediately put me on antibiotics and she was concerned about IBC.  I had mammogram & ultra sound done 4 days later and meet with a Breast surgeon 2 days after that.  Breast Dr. thought that is was a mastitis and wanted me to stay on the antibiotics for an additional 2 weeks.(almost 4 weeks total).  Mammogram and ultrasound did not show anything.   I met with Dr. 2 wks. after the first visit and I had responded to the antibiotic and he said that it was an infection and that I was good.  Dr. wants to see me again the end of Sept..

The last couple of days I have had stabbing pain off and on in my left breast....obviously I am concerned.  Has any one responded to antibiotics and later been diagonised with IBC?  I now know the urgency to get treatment as quickly as possible.  Should I be calling the Dr. back to discuss the pain?   Wish I wasn't such a worry wart.

 Thank you for any input.

I don't know how to answer the pain question- but if your nipple is still retracted and you still have a "rash" or anything I would demand a skin punch biopsy - that is the only way to tell if you have IBC- ultra sound and mammogram usually do not diagnose IBC.   I hope you are all better and the pain is just from healing.... Thank you ladies for taking the time to send some advice.  I appreciate it.  I have had an inverted nipple for as long as I can remember, but it seems to really have retracted a lot more than my normal.

I will be calling the Dr. on Monday to talk to him.  (I live in rural area and Dr. comes to office..45 min. away..on Mondays only)

Keeping you in my prayers....... Carol

Thank you Marie.  The pain that I was feeling has now gone away.  Hoping that it was just from healing process of breast infection as I have been told.  Sometimes it just feels a little tender and sore (like just before your period) only I haven't had period for about 5 years.  Hoping that I am just healing from a very nasty infection.

Keeping you in my prayers and wishing you good luck!

please help me i am going out of my mind with nerves I went for the MRi yesterday the dr called today said MRI looked fine .  But because of the vague area she seen in breast she wants to do a core biopsy on Monday. I am confused she said the MRI did not show advance IBC which was good . Would she see the vague area on MRI do you know .  She told me if I have IBC in the vague area then it would come up when she does the core biopsy . Please help me its 2 months already going to different drs. I should be happy about the MRI right but I am still worried now to get the core biopsy and the results of that but is it true that they can only tell if I have IBC  thru a core biopsy not the MRI

Please answer me asap I am going crazy

    Thanks Marie

    Marie:

Yes the only way to get the correct dx of IBC is by a biopsy.  Good luck on Monday keeping you in my prayers.

Oh what a roller coaster ride!  I ended up at the er on friday morning with pain radiating down my left arm.  They did all kinds of test, ekg, chest xray, blood work and everything is fine.  However, Dr. found the  lymphnodes under left arm are were swelling and tender, he thinks they are pressing on a nerve which is causing the arm problem.  I was told to schedule appointment with breast surgeon since I was just treated for Mastitis.

I have an appt. on Wed. with breast surgeon.  Just wondering if someone can explain & recommend which biopsy is the one I need to get, I keep reading about the skin punch biopsy and also the core biopsy.

Keeping you all in my prayers.

Ok, went to the Dr. yesterday and he said I was ok.  I was told the lymph nodes were not bad and that he wasn't concerned about them, also said that I did not have a mass.   I asked about the pain that is under my arm & also in breast and the response was a lot women have pain in their breast.  I asked about a biopsy and he said I didn't need one.

I feel I need to go for a  second opinion & would like a biopsy for peace of mind since I am still having pain in breast & under arm, also nipple is retracted more than the normal.  I am busy trying to gather copies of medical records so far.  Any recommendations on how to find a good IBC Dr. in Boston area?

Thank you for all your help, you are all incredible women!
