Does anyone have suggestions or ideas to help cut, not eliminate, the "bad" carbs in our diets?  I'm particularly interested in recipes for whole grain breads and other dishes as I'd like to cut way back on processed white flour and sugar.  All ideas gratefully accepted.

I make a concious effort to avoid white carbs - whole wheat pasta, brown rice, whole wheat bread, oatmeal instead of cereal.  I also dont eat meat.

So chickpea salad (like pasta salad but with chickpeas instead of pasta), pasta salad with whole wheat pasta, etc

got a great new recipe for Zuchini pesto - slice zuchini thin and toss with pesto and raw corn (cut off the cob).  add sundried tomatoes.  I added white beans for some protien

Fav after work recipe - can of black beans nuked and thrown on top of some brown rice.  yum.

    Hey Tina

My husband pretty much sticks to low carb. However, I don't do alot of cooking......LOL. At the grocery, I do buy things like the low carb wraps instead of bread. He loves making BLT wraps, ham and cheese wraps, scrambled eggs and cheese wraps.....and just about anything else you can put on a wrap. His favorite snack is to toast a wrap really well and spread peanut butter on it. There is a low carb cereal too (I think Special K) and he just dresses it up with splenda or something. He stays pretty think and his cholesterol is great. He eats ALOT of meat......bacon, sausage, steak, chicken. Sweet potatoes is another thing. If we're out, he'll order that rather than regular potato or french fries.

Now when it comes to me.........I'd rather have carbs ANY DAY than meet. I could live on bread. I know that's bad bad.............LOL

Good luck.........it's very doable if you like that sort of thing.

    (((((((((((((((((hugs to ya))))))))))))

OMG.  I would prefer to live on bread and pastry alone if I had my druthers.  My idea of the perfect food is fresh carraway seeded rye bread with crispy crust with real butter.  Nothing better.  Well, maybe a nice, flaky cheese Danish. LOL  You're my kind of girl!

Gee, all great suggestions.  I didn't know they sold low carb wraps.  Are they cardboard???  Anyway, I will try them to see for myself.

I hear Ezekiel bread is good but I can only get it frozen and I hate previously frozen baked goods.

I'm going to try the zucchini pesto now that sweet corn is coming in locally.  Don't pre-boil the corn?  Really?

There is a low carb pasta you can buy called "Dreamfields", they sell it at Wegmans in my town.  You can find it in the pasta aisle.  I am diabetic and it does not spike my blood sugar like regular pasta.  They make spaghetti, ziti, lasagna and macaroni.  It does not taste any different from regular pasta and has only 5 carbs per serving (as apposed to regular pasta at about 50 per serving).

Gee, never heard of Dreamfields but I just did a check online and see that they are supposed to be carried by a couple of my local supermarkets.  Surprise.  It's worth trying.

Found this recipe for cheese crisps while searching for low carb snacks.  I think I'll try these with some old and dry Provolone cheese (too expensive to totally waste) and see what they're like.  Possibly will satisfy my craving for potato chips.  I'll let you know.

Have  been so good about no bad food this past week.  Lost 3 lbs!!!  Let's hope this trend continues.

Broccoli is coming in fast and furious now so I'll be blanching and freezing some tomorrow.  I love raw broccoli and want to know if anyone has an idea or recipe for a good dip that I can pig out on with the broc.

As far as I am aware it is probably better not to use soy flour.  I must just point out that I think that is chiefly applicable to us ER+ folk.

    warmest regards -
