started using melatonin to sleep and
have started sleeping but have very vivid dreams that I remember when I wake up. It is so strange and sometimes I feel so tired like I did all the exercise in the dream. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yup - you didn't say at what dose you started but you should start out slow and allow you body to grow acustom to it over time and my experience was that the vivid relaxed.. There are "continual release" pills too and, for me, they were the best selection as the Melatonin was slowly released into my system over the night.. Good luck and Good night!!! <smile>

I take it too..but don't have any dreams out of the ordinary...but it does help sleeping..

My wife and I are both taking it. She's taking 18mg a night, I'm taking 9mg. Yes, we did both have the vivid dream thing initially. It might be making mornings a little groggy as well. I've read many good things about melatonin and it doesn't sound like there is much chance for harm.

I am just taking 5mg, the dreams are ok but hope they get less vivid. Its almost like reading a book. LOL. It certainly does help me sleep better though. Thanks for all the comments.

I have great sleep results with dosages as low as 1mg. If you're having very vivid dreams, you might try cutting the dose a bit and see how you do.

IF the dreams are disturbing to you, absolutely cut the dose and then slowly increase it (or don't). I use 3 mg timed release (to keep me asleep) and 3 mg regular (to put me to sleep). I started out iwth 1 mg and then worked up to 3 mg and now am at 6mg. I had at one time taken 8 mg but find that 6 is just right for me. I have never had the 'dream thing' going on. Best wishes

It takes a bit of time to determine what works best for each individual. Like Ruby I like to take the time release and the regular and I stay at about 9mg.. When I started I started at 3mg but found out the vivid dream were too much so I went back to 1mg and then slowly, over about 2 weeks, increased the dose, always watching to see which number was the best!!!

You may want to try Calms Forte by Hyland's, it's homeopathic. www.hylands.com. I get mine at Whole Foods. It does sometimes give the weird/vivid dreams but I don't feel groggy when I wake-up. It doesn't put you to sleep like a sleeping pill but does relax the mind some so that sleep comes easier/quicker. Just an idea if the melatonin doesn't work out for you.

I will keep in mind the calms forte, I have heard of it before. Am going to take have of the 5mg melatonin tonight and see how that does and go from there. thanks for all the information, will experiment until I get it right.
My cousin had a fit when I said I was taking it, he said he had heard it was dangerous but have never heard anything like that here or read anything. He said he heard it on the news. Has anyone here heard that?

My sister and her son said they had wild vivid dreams. I sleep just fine....I take 6mg.
Hugs,
Terry

I cut it down to 3mg last night and did ok. Isn't it weird about the dreams. I wonder if that is how some horror writers come up with their books to write. Some of mine have been weird enough to be a movie. LOL
