    hi everyone,

this may be a stretch but has anybody ever experienced heart issues after chemo and radiation?

I am 55 and I have been experiencing major jaw aches and a gas like bubble in my chest. I went to a cardiolgist and he is doing a Catherization next week. My EKG showed abnormalties. Strangely I never had high blood pressure or cholestoral issues, so I wonder WHY, I just wonder if it could have been assoiciated with treatment?  This is just one more worry I have to deal with, wow does it ever end?! The Card. said he see's it sometimes but MANY years later. I finished up treatment in May last year, and it was my left breast. Well anyway if anyone has ever heard anything like this or experienced it too I would love to hear from you. Big hugs to all you girls out there!

So sorry Jack - but I am sending all good wishes to you.  I had a echocardiogram prior to the AC (which I am finished with) and just had my first Taxol (three more to go).  I asked when my heart gets tested, but my onc said not until after all my chemo is done.  I don't know what I will find at that time either.  So far no bad symptoms, but I did develop a blood clot (probably from the Neulasta) which was found on the day before my first Taxol, so I have that now too.  Hope all goes well and I'm sure someone will be along to help you - since I wasn't able to.

    Linda

I know when I was doing chemo, my heart would race so fast and felt like it was pounding out of my chest.  When I got so breathless that I thought I would die, I told my oncologist I was so worried about it.  He did say that there could be some underlying heart issues and to call 911 if I felt in distress at any time.  I didn't have to do that.  But. . . . during radiation, about the second week in, my blood pressure went sky high.  It has been normal all my life.  So now I'm on BP meds and probably will be the restof my life.  I'm 3 months out from radiation, and it's still high without meds, so I guess it's one of the prices to pay for getting rid of the cancer!

I know during radiation I had terrible pains in my chest.  Stabbing pains and pressure.  When I went to my PCP, she checked me out well, and thought that the radiation was irritating my stomach and esophogus and had me try Prilosec.  It helped a lot, so that relieved my fears with that.  After the radiation stopped, the pains went away.
