Montreal doctors
Hello everyone,
I have just been diagnosed with LCIS/ADH (by stereo biopsy), and now have to go in for surgery to make sure nothing else is lurking in my breast.
I have been going to the same doctor for 17 years. I have fibrocystic breasts and have been going for mammos since I was 28 because I get many cysts. .
My problem is that although I have been going to the same hospital for my mammos and biopsies for the past 17 years (Royal Victoria Hospital), I am debating about whether to change doctors and hospitals for my exicision. The reason for this is because when my doctor called me with the results of my stereo, he told me I need surgery to remove "junkie cells." When I told him that I don't understand what this means and that I would appreciate if he told me what the pathology report showed, he QUICKLY read off the report, and said, (to my ears) sarcastically, 'do you want to hear more?" I said no, and I researched the only thing I understood (ADH).When I went I went in for my pre-op, I requested my pathology report and that is when I really learned what the stereo showed: Lobular Intraepithelial Neoplasia (ADH/LCIS, Fibrocystic changes with adenosis, columnar cell changes/hyperplasia, usua ductal hyperplasia and apocrine metaplasia. Calcifications present. What do I do? I have gotten an appointment with the one of best BS in Montreal (at the Jewish General) for this week, but I am afraid of changing or delaying my surgery.I know my doctor is good, but I cannot help feeling that he is not taking my diagnoses seriously. Your advice or comments would be greatly appreicated.Comments

I would not be afraid to see another doctor for a second opinion. It's your body, your life but like you I often feel worried about seeking that second opinion. However there is no need to feel like that, the more information you get the better for you. Both the Vic and the Jewish are great hospitals and have great doctors but you must feel confident and comfortable with your doctor. Don't worry they won't hold it against you and if they do then maybe you should change doctors.Good luck to you !!

Hi,
I agree with Marie111. I too am from Mtl. If you really feel like finding a new doc then go for it. There is the general and the jewish etc. Follow your gut! It is your decision and body. Giulia

Hi Marie and Guilia,
Thank you both for your replies.
I have decided to go ahead with the surgery (next Friday), and then make a decision about changing doctors. I have confidence that he is a good surgeon, so I will go through with that, get my results, and then go for a second opinion.
May I ask who your doctors are? What hospitals you go to? If you feel uncomfortable sharing this, no problem. You can also Personal Message me if you wish.
Again, thank you. The support I have gotten on these boards has been amazing.

Hello girls from Montreal,
can you please advise the best BS in Jewish General in Montreal?
If it is not convenient please send me a message-many thanks!
I am sorry for asking probably stupid question but who is performing biopsy? Is that te surgeon who would operate or different doctor?
If I have to wait too much for the appointment would it be smart to make biopsy somewhere else where I can get the appointment faster? And then be operated in Jewish General, is that workable?
Thanks again and I wish good luck to all!!

HI Milana,
I got an appointment to see a BS at the Jewish General within a week. I am seeing Dr. Margolese. He is great. He is a surgical oncologist, and he would be the one seeing you and doing the surgery.
I suggest you call for an appointment, tell them your situation, and I am sure you will be able to see him very quickly.
If I may ask, how do you know you need a biopsy? Are you being seen by another doctor now? Did you have a mammo that showed something?
-
Hi Covertanjou,
I did mamogram, then magnification and biopsy is strongly suggested. My family doctor wants to refer me to JG but I dont know if I should wait that long? How long did you wait to get the appointment?
I have the US on Monday and on Wednesday I am getting a ref from my doctor for JG.I went to JG today and person in D 220 told me that I have to bring all I have with me together with the ref and only then I will be able to get the appointment?
Shall I ask for dr Margolese and will he be doing the biopsy if I get the appointment for him? How does it work?
Thanks a lot
Milana

Hi Milana,
I am a little confused: where are you getting your US? Where did you get your mammo? Is it a hospital? Because if is, isn't there a doctor there that can operate?
To get an appointment with Dr Margolese, I had to fax my referral, and I brought in my biopsy results. The more the doctor has the better he is able to give you his opinion
I got an appointment within the week with the doctor at JG. As soon as they get the referral, they can give you an appointment. He is very good, and if you bring in the mammo films and the US results, he will be able to tell you if you need to get a biopsy.
For now, take a breath. I know how stressful it is, but remember that you may not need a biopsy, and even if you do, it may be benign.
So, fax or bring your referral on Wednesday, and you may have an appointment for Friday or Monday of the following week.
PM me if you wish

Hello,
I went well through the surgery and final diagnosis is ALH. And 5 years on Tamoxifen.
Would anyone know a good gynecologist in Montreal who accepts new patients?
Thanks

For the record, after about a month of appointments at the JG I have to say : They are ANGELS. I would highly recommend them!
