my first post on the site, question for anyone/all. Just diagnosed with invasive ductal and metastatic on right. On the left they have (so far) only found clustered calcifications. Would people here choose a double mastectomy in light of the right or just watch. I am so overwhelmed and confused.

I had cancer on both sides and only had a lumpectomy.  If I had to do it over again they would both come off.  The worrying isn't worth it.  That's just my opinion.

Just my 2-cents worth - I would go for a double.  I had a double in Dec 2007 and have never regretted it.  Cancer was in the left, but I did not want to have the worries of the right.  I don't miss the boobs.  Don't miss the bras.  Don't miss the sweating under the boobs in the summer.  Don't miss the worry of whether I will get cancer in the right - and since I am a Stage IV, they would not likely consider another mastectomy.  But we each have to do what we are comfortable with.  I can do without body parts - I am living.
