The Accidental Amazon

Hello, my friends. 

I am coming up on the one-year anniversary of my diagnosis & I am finally starting to feel something like myself!  I want to thank all the wonderful women & men on this forum (and thank-you to BCO!) for helping me keep my sanity.

I started a blog on New Year's Day this year which I call The Accidental Amazon.  The title came from a holiday greeting I sent out to my friends.  With my usual smart-@ss sense of humor, after I updated everyone on how I was doing with recovery, I signed it "The Accidental Amazon."  That made me laugh so much, I immediately searched the domain with my web host & bought it (www.accidentalamazon.com)!  As I am fond of saying about breast cancer, so far I've lived to complain about it.

I am in the fortunate position in life to be able to have my cake & eat it to as far as my job & my aspirations are concerned.  I work as a physical therapist & I get to help people for a living, which is the best thing in the world.  I am also an artist & I have been making various kinds of art for a long time.  While I was out of work being a patient, making art about this experience was another thing that kept me from going nuts & helped me laugh.  The blog has been just one of the creative ways I have found to get beyond the diagnosis & pull all the strands of my life together.  And believe me when I tell you they have come together in some wonderful & unexpected ways.  

Here's a few examples of what I'm talking about.  Recently, a photograph of mine was accepted into a juried photography show (not the one below -- check the blog for that one!!).  And just last weekend, Dr. Susan Rose accepted my friend request on Facebook!!!!   You gotta visit the blog to understand how both of these extraordinary occurrences came about.  But one upshot of all of this is that my blog was nominated for a "Most Provocative Blog Award for 2009," which I take as high praise!!  You can cast your vote once a day every day till July 6th at this link:  SocialLuxe Blog Awards
