I have just had a Lumpectomy that and i have been told that 15mm was full ILC and 50 MM was spots of ILC and 2mm Clear I am grade2 . I have read some of the reports but I am unconvinced of a MX. I have clear Nymph nodes. Any Advise or help would be gratefully received?

I do not want a MX if my breast is Clear also what id teh  chance of recurrence ?

    Thanks Annie

The important thing to remember in the lump vs. mast decision is that in terms of overall survival, lump+rads=mast. The only thing a mast helps with is reducing the risk of local recurrence or a new primary. It doesn't eliminate those risks, however, as it is impossible for the surgeon to remove all breast tissue. You can still recur along the scar, in the chest wall, in the lymph nodes, etc.

Lump vs. mast is a totally personal decision. You have to decide how you feel about radiation, how you feel about local monitoring, and possible further biopsies, or on the flip side, wearing a prothesis, going through reconstructive surgery, etc. If the mast isn't medically necessary, but rather presented as optional, you're the only one who can decide what's right for you.

This is a decision only you and your doctor can make.

One of my friend's sister had IDC and she was going to do only lumpectomy and rads; her sister (a doctor) told her to have the mastectomy because of history in the family.  She only removed one breast and when they did pathology, DCIS was spread all over her entire breast.

My BC wasn't diagnosed with anything but MRI...I was told ILC is multifocal, but mine was not.

I had nothing in the other breast and no other spots in the cancer side.

I say this because it shows you how confusing and how much you have to rely on your own judgement.  I do not regret having a Bilateral MX.  I went into it knowing I could be clean.

Best to you with your decision.  There are many threads here about deciding and my final decision came when I opted out of rads.

I am curious about your signature line...it states 2cm ILC.  50mm is 5 cm of multifocal...did your doc address that??

I am clear in my Lymph nodes but the cancer was in about 2 inches of me and in spotted areas . It was not one lump but in little spots apart from the 15cm part where it was fully cancerous . The other area was a mix of inavsive and non invasive.  The MRI had shown it that large not but  the scan . I wrote that last night through my tears so I was not very clear . I hope  that is clearer.

They are advising a mastectomy and other therapy not sure yet . I do not have to have it but they say the breast is unstable , but it may be clear if they do remove ! My choice .

Annie51,  My ILC was in lots of places in my breast.  I had small tumors spread out over the top half of my breast (too many to count), the largest area of tumor was 2.1 cm.   Mine was a mix of invasive and non invasive, too.  I had a mastectomy,  didn't really have a choice.  However, I would have chosen mastectomy anyway.  I had my other breast removed, too.  I don't regret that at all.  You will need to know other markers about your tumor, like the ER and PR and Her2 levels, then your oncologist can give you more information about prognosis.  You may want to ask him/her to have the Oncotype DX test run on your tumor, too, just to get more information.
