Dear Marybe, that no kill shelter does look beautiful, it is good to know that there are places like this for pets who have been rescued, abandoned, or whose owners  have passed on.  We have all rescue cats and I know you did too, plus by your donations you helped that shelter.  I completely understand your tears.  You are such a compassionate soul.  I cannot go to a shelter unless I am bringing a crate, since my DD and I inevitably bring home a pet.  She and I are up to 6 in two households.  I am so glad you had such a good  time in Branson, I know from the other thread you hosted Chrissy on her amazing journey.  I know of so many of us who are enjoying her journey vicariously. My Ruby is very finicky about her litterbox.  If she uses it once, she meows and meows for me to clean it.  If I don't which is usually, since I'm not her servant, she puts the scooper into the box!  I hid it so she found the brush I scrub the bathroom tiles with, it's square with bristles and put that in there!  I hid that too and she went bonkers and put tp, the bathmat, contents of wastebasket in there.  My other cat goes to do his business and looks at the litter box like what the......?

Dear bedo, your Ruby is quite the communicator in protesting the condition of her litterbox.  I certainly got a chuckle out of your post and the other cat's bewilderment.  I once changed to chlorophyll based litter and my cat kept climbing up on the lip of the litterbox until he tipped it over.

Bedo, I like your cat....sounds like she has a lot of personality.  George did not do the things your cat does, but he was such a talker and I miss that.

This is a picture of Harley and Hope fighting over the little Beanie baby bear I picked up in an antique mall on vacation.  To think my God-daughter thought she was going to make a fortune selling her Beanie Baby collection and now you can buy them for a $1 or less.  I am sure this one won't be intact for long...already is missing an ear and a nose.  I remember when my old dog Sydney was young, he didn't have a single stuffed animal with eyes or a nose....sometimes he would pull an arm or a leg off and he would patiently sit there waiting for me to sew it back on.

Bedo, Karastan?   It's great for not showing accidents which are often in this house.....problem is, even if they don't show, they smell.

marybe I think so.  It came with the house.  It's a 1780 home.  I run the dehumidifier alot when it gets humid for that "Paul Revere" smell..   Natures Miracle is good.  They have an orange and a non-smell one.  I haven't tried it on this carpet yet, but it worked on the old one. (It was my mistake, I tried to toilet train them and the girl cat got it, but boy cat peed on the rug)

Marybe, had a lab that peed when we left him home from anxiety.  Used Nature's Miracle too, it worked great, no lingering odor.  Eventually built a garage so he  could be indoors or out.

where do you guys get the natures miracle? i'd like to try it. my little man is good, but the "blindie" will pee when she thinks she's on a paper. it COULD be the carpet, she has no idea. its better now. when i take her down out of bed, i lock her in the kitchen with doggire pads. they;re attracted to something in them... but, id like to use yours. can you use it in an extractor machine, do you know? 3jays

Dear 3jays, Nature's Miracle is available at Pet Co, also on line, just google it.  I put it in my rug shampooer, when my lab was having separation anxiety attacks and having accidents.

i've also seen it at most all pet supply stores, & farm supply stores/co-ops.  really does work great.  best to blot up as much urine as you can, then generously soak the spot with the natures miracle.

i either crate, or confine my babies to a carpetless room when we have to leave them too long.  my neurotic little fella likes his crate, makes him feel safe & even goes in there on his own for a nap.  also, they do have diapers for doggies that work pretty good.  for those unpredictable little buddies.

just had my stage II diep, so the buckmeister is on guard duty again.  hubby beware!  much safer to blow a goodbye kiss from the door!!

Dear grdnsive, rest and TLC are on the menu for you.  Sounds like the buckmeister knows how to take care of his mama, and takes his job seriously.  gentle hugs, Karen

    thanks Karen-

ever notice how our 'babies' know the spoken language?  i am sometimes amazed at all the words they react to.  the buckmeister is a picky picky picky eater.  his food could sit there all day, but our poodle Little would eat the whole bag if it tipped over, so buckys food has to be watched.  it sits on a chair by the tv so hopefully we will notice the pudgy land shark trying to get it.  when we do, we say 'Bucky, Little is going to get your food', and he come racing from the nether regions of the house to guard it & perhaps take a nibble or two.  they don't fight over it, he just body blocks her from getting into it.  just cracks me up.  maybe its the percoset............. nite all

    Marybe:

Just getting back onto this thread after some time . . . I know this is belated, but I am so sorry your Georgie passed!  So difficult.

3jays:  Love the picture of the dog!  Too funny.  Regarding peeing, hope the "Nature's Miracle" is working for you.  We've got a cat who pees, and we've covered various things (exercise equipment, telephones and carpet areas) with plastic.  Just walked out to check what we were using to clean up after her, and it is indeed "Nature's Miracle".  Good luck with all of this!

So today it is cool out and I decided to wear regular jeans rather than capris or cotton pants.....couldn't zip them!!....these are pants I wore last month on vacation, less than a month ago.  But I must admit I have been eating like it is going out of style.  I was eating junk on vacation that I do not normally eat, but ever since I found out what my tumor markers were and then got the scan report I have really been eating, not because I am hungry, sometimes I am not hungry at all, but I am still shoveling it in.......so I am thinking I am stressed and don't know it and am doing stress eating.  Ok, back to my story....so I could not zip my jeans.  I thought well I will just lie down on the couch and get them zipped up and they will stretch out since they are just newly laundered and I know they will give once I get them zipped.....couldn't do it.  So I am really just talking to myself, but the dogs are there and I said No way can I zip these jeans so bam, Harley jumps up right on my stomach and sits there.  He never really jumps on my stomach.....put his paws on my shoulder when he wants to wake me up and has gotten on my back before trying to wake me, but he's never really jumped on my stomach.  I think he was trying to help me, sort of like when someone sits on the suitcase you are trying to close.  It didn't work, but it sure did make me laugh.

    Marybe

My daughter and I think our cats 'Kneed' us to show us where we 'need' to lose weight.

The other thing about peeing.  When I was diagnosed my boy cat went bonkers and peed everywhere in a circle around the couch where I slept.  The vet said he was anxious.  Gave him tiny dose of prozac.  It worked!  He is off it now and we are both happy campers.

Hi Marybe, great story, made me laugh too.  He knew his mama needed to laugh at that point, I hate trying to just force the zipper when you know they will loosen as you wear them.  Sometimes that just can't be done, next time it happens to me, I'll just think of Harley.

I have been away for quite some time - health issues and broken computer.  Just got a new computer today - yea!

If anyone has a solution to my cat's problem, I would appreciate some insight - he goes in his litter box but half the time he is not sitting in it and pee goes outside and under the box.  Its driving me crazy - and it doesn't matter the condition of the box - he's done right after I completely changed the entire box.

FYI ... I had a scare about my heart and put me on the straight and narrow - food is not my friend!  I am working on my weight as we speak.  I try to remind myself that I need to eat to live not live to eat (I like the second better) and that it is a lifestyle choice - for the rest of my life.  Ugh!

Dear kmccraw, my cat occasionally goes half in, half out.  I watched for a few days, she was having trouble maneuvering in the box, got a much bigger box and problem fixed itself.  Could this be it?

KMC, Hope the heart issues are under control.....I have a friend who is constantly in A-fib and it's no fun....she is now on warfarin like me.   I was also going to suggest a larger box as Karen did.....is it a fat cat?   I have this friend with a very fat cat and she misses the box so they put a plactic tray under the box and it makes it easier to clean up.  Pets are a PIA at times, but worth it.

Thanks ladies ... if his box got any bigger it would not fit in the bathroom.  I am trying a hooded one to see if that works!
