Feel forgotten by my doctors
Is there anyone out there who has already gone through it all and feel like there doctors have just forgotten the fact that you had breast cancer. I was diagnosed 3 year ago and have has a bl mastectomy. I had the bl because I wanted to live a worry free life, but I thought my doctors would make sure and keep an eye on things because I do have the brca 1 gene and that is related to ovarion ca also. But since my surgeries my doctors havent done anything to make sure all is well. Lately I've been having alot of abdomen pain and ended up in the ER were they saw I have alot of cyste on my ovaries that there not sure are just cyste. It took my calling my doctor and demanding that something be done to get things moving on having these cyste removed and sent to a lab. I am worried that maybe I need new doctors and my husband is very upset at the lazy approach that the doctors are taking. Im scared and trying to keep a good attitude for my family but inside Im shaking.

Absolutely get new docs. Being BRCA+, you need to be followed by either a very good OB/GYN or a gyn onc. It may get some shopping around to get a good team of docs in place whom you feel comfortable with, but it's worth it.

I agree- find a new doctor.

you should check out www.facingourrisk.org and then go find a new doc.

Hi Kylemarie, I can relate...I'm a bit over 3 yrs out and it seems when I was first dx I got my treatment, surgeries, scans, lab work and you name it with no problem....now that I'm out 3 yrs I'm pretty much ignored. (Or that's how I feel.)
I'm very pro-active and I PUSH hard for everything but right now I'm not getting any help from my doctor's I use to trust. I have serious concerns and they all play games with me and I find it very frustrating. No one can relate unless they've had to deal with this. I recently told my primary doc maybe its time I change DOCTORS and be treated some where else. He said to hold on right now and MADE me THINK he was going to do something. Well NOTHINGS changed and here I sit with the same concerns I've had over my lungs for 6 months or so.
So YES...change doctors...we deserve better. This is serious business and we need to be very pro-active and NOT let them just ignore us. Since your BRCA you really need to stay on top of things and your doctors KNOW that. Shame on them! It's too bad some of these doctors don't have to LIVE in OUR shoes for just a FEW days to see how it feels and they would NOT treat us this way. There are alot of good doctors out there so do yourself a favor and get the medical attention you SO deserve. You probably have benign cyst which are VERY common...I had some too and they were removed...but I was worried sick till I actually had the surgery and bisopy on those cyst. You need some peace of mind so make some calls. Hang in there.
