I was diagnosed with mucoid colloid carcinoma last July was told by diagnosing doctor that this was a good type to get. The benchmark they use is 5yrs, for mucinous colloid it is 10yrs, of course as it is coming up for my 1 year anniversary and I just had my mammo my brain is working overtime till results are back. 27years you are my new heroine.

I have just been diagnosed with mucinous (colloid) carcinoma (IDC), I'm 36 and pretty freaked out while I wait for surgery in mid-July. It is really helpful to read your story and hear how long it has been since your treatment. It is hard to imagine getting to other side at this point, thanks for some hope.
What treatments did you have? I am still trying to understand it all and deal with issues of fertility. Any wisdom greatly appreciated

I had a mastecomy of the left side because in those days they really didn't know much about lumpectomy and long term prognois. All nodes were clean, and it did not seem to grossly invade the surrounding adipose tissue.(Who knows what that means) They said because of no node involvement and removal of the breast I didn't need further treatment. Today at least you can be tested to find out about estrogen receptiveness and grade of tumor. I only know from the path report that my tumor was 0.8cm and it was IDC colloid type. I'd like to know if this type of tumor can be passed on to my children, as I had two children after my cancer diagnosis.

Supposidely, this type of cancer hits older women, it sounds like we were all in our 30's, interesting.

At the beginning of my DX, I thought it was easy to treat, but have been at it seven years now. I have been on Herceptin for about four years and thus far, I haven't had any recurrence for three years. But..am dealing with stress waiting for recent test results. We shall see what happens. Good luck to all of you!
