The "Price" of Life

Options

This weekend my sister (19+ year survivor!) and I walked at a Relay for Life in Stockton, CA. One of the vendors there was from a well know insurance company. As he was handing out his business cards to several walkers I asked him what type of life insurance could I get. Eyeing my purple "survivor" shirt he said that it depended on my specific health issues. I told him I was a two time Breast Cancer survivor and that I'm a BRCA 2+, explaining what that meant. In a low voice he told me that he "might" be able to get me coverage for $10,000.00. I said, "Great, just enough to bury me. Good thing that I plan on being cremated so I would have enough left over to throw a party." He looked startled at my comment, then told me that he could insure my car. I told him, " Hmmmmm...if I wrecked my car and died, then my car would be fully covered. It's amazing that my car or house has more value than my life."

Every time we passed his booth, he'd look away. I guess I gave him a new perspective on what Relay for Life is about...
