I went for blood work today (treatment day 8), and white blood cell count is 50+. I am really worried. Can't stop crying. The normal level should be somewhere between 4-11. Does anyone out there have high number around treatment day 7-10, and then come back down on the treatment day (or treatment day 14 )? What was your number when it was high, and what was the number on the treatment day? I need to hear from you. Please help!

I sure cannot remember all my WBC counts, however it immediately was a problem for me.  It can be brought down with injections.  I guess Neulasta is used frequently now.  Each time I had chemotherapy, I used Neupogen which worked very well.  My husband gave me the injections at home and he was great at it.  It kept me out of the hospital with unnecessary infections and such.  Please have someone explain why the WBC reacts with the chemotherapy treatment.  As a matter of fact, during one time period, my WBC got too low because of the neupogen and the cancer center couldn't reach me as we were out of town.  I was just as exhausted as when it was too high.  While you are going through this, make sure you stay away from sickly people.  Be a hermit if need be for the time being.  No need to get sick in addition to everything else. Oh yes, when you have shots for WBC, make sure the liquid is not cold (they take it out of the frig) and have them push it slowly. Do not tense your body as it hurts more and have the person give it to you in a fleshy part of the body.  It is much easier to get shots under those conditions.
