scroll right to log in
What happened yesterday? Now I have to scroll right to even log in.
What changed? This is in both Firefox and IE.

Brenda, I'm using Firefox and the "login" is right where it used to be. I even changed my text size to see if it would move, but the lines wrap and it sits right there.
As for what happened, all I know is that someone appears to have turned the pages upside down: the "active topics" list and the number of current members etc. are now at the top of the main forums ("Forum Index") page instead of at the bottom. I don't use "active topics", so for me it's a nuisance to have that stuff at the top each time I go back to the Index page. I hate scrolling.
The other thing that's annoying me about the new layout is that frame at the right-hand side. Once I've logged on and I'm looking at the threads on the discussion forum, I want to concentrate on the posts there. If I wanted to read what BCO has to say about "Managing Menopausal Symptoms" or "Keeping Your Bones Healthy," or, "Who is BCO," I'd go back to the BCO home page and search for those things. I really don't need 'em migrated over to the discussion boards.
That's just me, though. Maybe some women who are in the process of typing up a post to complain about their hot flashes will see that link for "Managing Menopausal Symptoms" in amongst the "Content to Consider," and they'll think, "Oh, hey! How wonderful! Someone has already answered my question about hot flashes! I don't need to post on the discussion boards, after all!". Hah.
Oh, and I hate hate hate clutter. I'm old-fashioned. I don't need my telephone to have a camera; and when I'm watching TV, I only want one picture at a time on the screen. I would much prefer this itsy-bitsy "Post a Reply" window to be larger, and I would sure like it if the posts on the threads filled the page like they did before.
Just wait 'til all this new space is filled with commercials.

I don't see the stuff on the right in FF. It may be due to Adblock. I do see it in IE.
I don't mind the extra stuff at the top or even the side, I just hate having to scroll to log in. It may be because I still use a 17" monitor and 800x600 as my screen.
I wish they would take these things into account when they change the website.
After cancer I can't afford a bigger monitor. Lol
I won't mind ads either. I can block them in FF.

otter,
I second everything that you said! I find the clutter from the new formatting to be really annoying.

Beesie, even worse is the fact that, on certain pages of certain threads, that annoying right-hand frame with the "Content to Consider" is overlayed on top of the posts! The glitch is not consistent and not always reproducible, but when it does happen, it makes the posts almost illegible.
Of course, I'm using Firefox on a Mac, so this could be something that only appears on my computer--like the line-wrap problems that haul the text off the side of my screen when people post really long links. I've been told most BCO readers don't see a problem on those pages. Most web designers are only concerned about how things look with a Microsoft browser.
Oh, and one other thing about those links on the right-hand side of the page--they usually extend down only as far as the 2nd or 3rd post on the page, which leaves a blank column of empty white space on that side for the rest of the thread. What a waste.

My beef is that now the print is smaller....harder to read and I already wear bi-focals.
-
Lucy, can't you increase the text size on your screen? I have to do that all the time.

I'm having the same problem with the right-hand clutter overlapping some posts. I am using firefox on a windows vista machine. It's a simple fix--they need to use relative formatting (percent of the page) rather than absolute (# of pixels) on the style sheet. I really don't understand why the professionals they are paying to code the site didn't bother to test it on several platforms before rolling it out.
I also dislike the clutter---AND I don't even read what's in the mess on the right of the screen. My brain immediately ignores anything that resembles "google ads" that are so prevelant on the web.

What's Adblock? Can I make all the junk stuff go away with it? Wow! Would that ever be neat.

Hi everyone,
The new content we've added necessitated the move to a larger width. Unfortunately, monitor size can become an issue, but we felt that this new width was necessary in order to provide the maximum amount of space for active community content.
Regarding the issue reported by Otter of the "Content to Consider" section overlapping posts, we have been unable to reproduce the issue. However, please let us know if you find this issue to continue to occur, and if so, if you can provide the URLs of the specific pages on which you find it to occur as well as the browser you are using, that would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Niki

Niki, I'll re-post here if I see a page where the "Content to Consider" frame is overlapping the posts. I will give you the URL of the page, but the link won't be active. For some reason, most of us cannot post links to BCO pages and have the links work. (?)

Hi Otter,
Please do, and thank you! If you are able to take a screenshot of the page and email it to: webmaster@breastcancer.org that should alleviate the need for a link.
