ginger root for nausea, anyone?

I posted this in the wrong forum so I thought I'd try again here.... hope it's ok to duplicate post.

There has been a much-publicized study on the use of ginger root used as a preventive anti-nausea med. The key is taking it before and into chemo, not just when nausea hits after.

Oddly, before I even heard about this study, my body has been asking for ginger, and I've found a soda that has real ginger in it (not just flavoring), and I've found that soothing.

Just wondering if anyone has tried the capsules and what your results have been.

I bought a small bottle of purified powdered ginger, and wow, do they smell strong! Since I'm just out of chemo #3 I figure I can save these for a preventive use for A/C #4 but was curious if anyone else has gone this route.

I'm only having mild nausea twinges and am controlling it with small doses of ativan (rather than waiting until I really am sure I'm nauseous!) but figure if ginger will prevent even mild twinges ahead of the fact in the future, it's worth doing.

Thanks for any input.

Naturegrrl, I don't know about the pills, but I munched on ginger snaps the days I felt nauseaus, just small bites, and it definitely made it better.  I got these at Whole Foods, so not so much sugar and additives.  I tried ginger ale, but I got the regular brand, not so good.  Good luck and prayers through your chemo.

Naturegrrl, I'm on CMF and have only had one IV tx and a few days of the po cytoxan so far but I've been taking ginger since 3 days before I started and haven't had any nausea to speak of.  I mince some fresh ginger and put it in a gel capsule I bought at PCC and take one in the am.  For what it's worth, a friend of mine who is a nutritionist told me it's important to buy organic ginger because they use alot of pesticides to grow ginger because it's prone to fungus.  Hope this helps.
