Anyone tried reflexology or reiki?
I had a talk with a friend that told me reflexology and reiki could help me balance my emotions and strengthens my body. I finish chemo in two weeks and I see it like a gift to myself. Could it regenerates cancer cells too?I 'd like to read your opinion?

Unless I just plain don't understand these practicies, I don't see how either one will do any harm. Emotional balance is all part of the healing process, isn't it? If this is something that interests you, then do it.

I tried rekei not to long again and it was amazing. Don't know how it works, all I know is that I felt better, pain was not as bad for about 3-4 days afterwards. Felt more settled, can't really explain it but it was good. I had hands on rekei, although there are others who do hands off. Have to find someone you're comfortable with, technic you're comfortable with.

I was given a Reiki session as a gift from a friend. I didn't know anything about it but was soooo amazed at the gal that did the session. She only knew that I had bc and did her thing (she said sometimes she does hands on or off depending on the energy she feels)...anyway, she said after the session that she had to really dig and dig through my left shoulder area to clear the path there for balance and I told her that was my surgery side and all my lymph nodes were taken out. She said that explains it! Then she asked me questions on some other areas and each one she mentioned I was having an issue with as far as right hip pain, right neck pain...being tired. She was spot on! It was very cool. I felt balanced and energized afterward. She said if I can't afford to continue Reiki on my own to make sure I was doing some kind of meditation cd or to take time for myself each day to find balance, deep breathe, etc. Wish I could afford to go back to her though!!! Give it a try.

I am trained in Reiki as well as Healing Touch. Both modalities are energy based and help with imbalances in the human energy field and chakras. Healing Touch helps the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels to heal. More details are on www.healingtouchprogram.com.
I had H.T. treatments before and after my mastectomy and I didn't require any pain meds after the second day and had very little swelling or drainage. I get treatments after chemo to clear the side effects and help reduce the fatigue. I believe any energy based treatment is very beneficial because they helps your body's innate sense to heal itself. I don't know too much about reflexology, but whatever you choose, you will benefit. Good Luck

I am also a Reiki practitioner, and I can tell you it works.
My oncologist actually has free Reiki treatments in her office 2 days a week. Most patients have less side effects and are more peaceful than those not receiving the treatments. It is all energy based, as stated above, so the very worst case scenario is, it wont help you. I have not seen this happen yet in over a year at the oncs office.
You may also want to add some aromatherapy (lavender is very relaxing) even if you have to bring your own oil on a tissue. Ask around for some referrals. Good luck on your search.

The cancer center where I have my chemo infusions employs a Reiki Master who provides treatment free of charge to anyone who wants it. I have had Reiki done each time I have had my chemo cocktails (5 out of 6 complete as of last week). I feel that Reiki has been tremendously helpful in decreasing anxiety and decreasing side effects. It is wonderful. I also get weekly Herceptin, but don't have Reiki done with this, just every 3 weeks. The center is talking about adding reflexology also. I'm also taking yoga about twice weekly...also of great help to keep the fatigure away.

I also went to an oncologist who offered complementary Reiki therapy during chemo. I had horrible chest pain during my 2nd treatment which I was sure was heartburn but the nurses weren't so convinced. The Reiki therapist continued her treatment during this episode and within 10-15 minutes I was pain-free and they were able to restart my chemo. My anxiety level dropped and most times I fell asleep during my treatment. I had minimal side effects from chemo after each Reiki session...so much so that I wanted to continue with my reiki practitioner when I finished chemo in November. She volunteers her time to cancer centers and doesn't have a private practice. She suggested I get certified in reiki so that I could do it to myself. Reiki is very self-healing. I got my Reiki 1 certification in April. I have benefited as has my family. I plan on getting my level 2 certification as soon as it is offered in my area. I highly recommend it.

My hospital offers reiki post surgery. Ironically I used to do massage for the oncology unit, knew people, and was able to get a reiki person to come into my surgical area while I waited for my bilateral mastectomy procedure to begin. Whether it works energetically or not, it was lovely to have that attention, to have someone clearing and holding the space as sacred. That simple act was hugely beneficial.

I had Reiki done after one of my chemos and could not tell if it did anything. I had just come down with a cough and that sort of prevented me from getting that nice calm spaced out feeling, I started coughing as soon as a laid down. But the cough did work itself through my body within a few days rather than a few weeks, and given that I was weaker due to chemo the Reiki probably did help with that. I had a chance to get Reiki level one training through a yoga class I started taking. It was $100 so I thought, why not? I spent $55 a treatment for all my acupuncture and $75 for my Reiki, not knowing if any of that would work. If the reiki worked I would have a tool for life and if not, well I have tossed half to that on massages that did not do much for me. The class was very interesting and while I did not feel anything during my attunement I did feel some very interesting things during the treatment a fellow student did on me and she felt some interesting things when I worked on her. The next day I felt no pain in my hip that had been really hurting for awhile and had more energy and just felt more up and alive that I had in ages. The pain did return in a couple of days, but not as badly and I can definately feel a difference when I treat myself. DH is a sceptic but says he definately sleeps better on nights I give him a treatment. I have give a little bit of Reiki to three friends, all of whom said they felt something. I can't wait to train to level two. In the mean time I am reading alot about Reiki and practicing where ever I can. I even try to heal my food, my car, and my plants. Weird stuff but it works.

Hi Vivo,
When I was going through treatment I was always looking for ways to increase my energy and make my body stronger. I tried many different things like yoga and eating healthier foods. I am now a 17 year survivor of Hodgkin's Disease and started a blog, cincovidas.com, that deals with the side effects of cancer treatment . I did a recent post on Reiki benefits during cancer treatment http://blog.cincovidas.com/reiki-universal-energy-helps-ease-chemotherapy-side-effects . I hope this helps to answer some of your questions. Let me know if you decide to try it and how it goes.
Love, strength and survival,
Britta

I also am fortunate to have been able to have Reiki therapy, but just in the last 2 months. I did a lot of research on it and found a person whose credentials I was very impressed with, In addition, when I met her, I felt very safe and comfortable with her. For me it was absolutely profound! I have had 3 sessions.... each different experiences.... and yet each one leaving me more at peace. I also had 2 rain drop therapy treatments which is basically gentle massage of the spine using healing oils that are mentioned in the Bible, such as Francincense and Myrrh. I had not been sleeping well, and after each rain drop therapy, I have slept so peaceably it is amazing.
It is something one has to be comfortable with, as not all are open to the energy healing process.Look to the Universe for signs, such as the wonderment of a butterfly at an opportune time. For me, I was sent a lovely melody that I heard at Mass and it comforted my mind and nourished my soul. If anyone wants to hear a lovely tune, Google: Come to Me by Michael Joncas. You can listen to it for free on Rhapsodymusic.com If you have head phones put them on and allow the music to heal you!

Hey all,
I went to Reflexology prior to every Chemo treatment. It helped me to relax going into my chemo treatments. I would high recommend a few sessions.
