ginger root for nausea, anyone?

There has been a much-publicized study on the use of ginger root used as a preventive anti-nausea med.  The key is taking it before and into chemo, not just when nausea hits after.

Oddly, before I even heard about this study, my body has been asking for ginger, and I've found a soda that has real ginger in it (not just flavoring), and I've found that soothing.

Just wondering if anyone has tried the capsules and what your results have been.

I bought a small bottle of purified powdered ginger, and wow, do they smell strong!  Since I'm just out of chemo #3 I figure I can save these for a preventive use for A/C #4 but was curious if anyone else has gone this route.

I'm only having mild nausea twinges and am controlling it with small doses of ativan (rather than waiting until I really am sure I'm nauseous!) but figure if ginger will prevent even mild twinges ahead of the fact in the future, it's worth doing.

Thanks for any input.

Carol

    Hi Carol,

I used fresh ginger and boiled it to make a tea of sorts when I was doing chemo.  I never did have to take any anti nausea pills after chemo, though I did get the full amount of anti nausea meds with my chemo (TCHx6).

I don't know if the ginger was a placebo or not, I didn't get sick and that is all I cared about. I hope the balance of your chemo goes smoothly.

Thanks for the reply. I must've been tired when I posted because this isn't the forum where I meant to post this question -- oh well! :)  I appreciate the input.  I don't think there's much doubt that ginger can help at least some kinds of nausea, was just wondering about the work with chemo. Thank you again for replying.
