Only 20
Hi. I just turned 20 a little over 2 months ago and 2 weeks ago I found a lump in my breast. Yesterday the doctor called and told me it was a Phyllodes tumor and I must have surgery. The tumor I have is non-malignant but I am so afraid of it coming back and being malignant. I feel I have no one to talk to about this especially since im only 20. I just need some advice from someone with experience or anyone who can help. Thank you!

I know your going through a horrible time right now, but please don't let your mind wonder into the 'what if' area. I was 29 at dx and never had lumps in my breast removed. It's fantastic news that your tumor is B9, and it's fantastic that you are so breast aware and acted on finding your lump so early. My friend has been having B9 lumps removed from her breast since she was in her early 20s she's now 39 and they have never been malignant. Try not to worry, continue being breast aware, and enjoy being 20 and healthy!

I agree with Maeve! Your tumor is benign now, try to move on after it is removed! I was 24 when I was diagnosed and had both of my breasts removed. Be happy for your benign results, and good luck to you!

Don't worry and just let the doctors take care of you, Try to think of the good side of things, it's great that the lump has been detected early, and it is benign, and it will be a good incentive for you to monitor your health in future. I'm not trying to say you should obssess over this and check ALL of your organs every other month, but what i'm trying to say is that oftentimes people won't go see a doctor until things aren't that great, or there are pains and aches, whilst you will be able to use the emotions you have now to go to docs for just basic regular check ups.
Don't worry, and try to maybe talk to your friends, or parents, there's got to be someone who can be supportive to you. They might not understand everything you're doing through, but at least you'd be able to let it all out, and talk through what you're feeling. It helps
Take care!!

That is awesome that its benign
, yes I agree with what everyone else is saying you shouldnt worry yourself sick thinking about it. Enjoy life, and whenever you feel down or start thinking negatively again, talk to someone, a friend or family member , it helps

I am 17 and found a lump earlier in the summer. After an ultrasound they told me I had a fibroadenoma. The doctor suggested a biopsy before surgery to check for another rare tumor, the phyllodes. The biopsy showed a possible phyllodes so I had a lumpectomy with more tissue removed to help prevent reoccurence. My tumor was benign but we are going to get a second opinion from a specialist because my mom is nervous that the pathology was correct. She has been researching and apparently it is kind of difficult to determine the stage of this tumor.
I am doing OK with this so far. It IS scary and sometimes I think about it. I think my family will feel better after seeing the specialist.

I forgot to mention in my last post. . . we are confused about this tumor. There is not much information about it. My doctor did not mention to me that I have any kind of cancer but some of our research says that it is considered cancer because of it's potential. So I don't know where I stand. . . where I am in this process. I know I want to become more aware about breast cancer. . I know I have had a lumpectomy. . . does anyone understand how I feel?
