Need Your Help (please)

Hi All,

I am looking for anyone who was DX with DCIS with large tumor and had a mastectomy  and after surgery margin was not enough 0.1cm and was advised to take further treatment radiation and has chosen not to take treatment.  Has anyone had a recurrence or not had one and how long has it been for you? I had a 9.2cm and mx on feb 12/09 and was advised to due rads but would love to find out stats as the dr don't seen to know as they said there isn't enough cases which i find hard to believe so please help.......

I was advised I would need radiation, even though I'm having a mastectomy. They usually reserve radiation for people who get lumpectomies. I believe it is because of the tumour size. Mine is 5.9 cm. I haven't made up my mind yet whether or not to do radiation. I will have more info after the surgery.I was not diagnosed with DCIS. I have ILC.

I see you are ER- and PR-. I think that limts you, in that, hormone receptor blockers don't work. Do what you can. Post this is the DCIS forum. They should be able togive you some info.

I agree with Makingway, since your are er/pr-negative and have no other drugs to try to stave of recurrance as the er/pr+ gals have, I would utilize everything I could (which I too am doing, also being triple neg).  If you are her2 +, then of course you have those other options.  Good luck in whatever you choose to do - it's so hard to always feel you are making the right one.  Gosh, I hate this disease.
