Sleeping on which side?

Hi, Girls,

I had BC at right breast,  and I always sleep at right side on bed, is that one of the reason that my right breast  has been always pressed which is easier to get BC?  How about you?

I am a side sleeper, but I sleep on both sides and had it on just one. In fact, I probably sleep slightly more often on my right, and the tumor was on the left. I have noticed that the area where my tumor was is exactly where seat belts hit me when I'm driving - this was especially obvious after my biopsy and before my surgery. But I'm not aware of any connection between compression and breast cancer.

Really, this "OMG! Is THIS what caused it?" exercise will probably drive you crazy. We all do it, I think, unless you're someone who has some sort of definitive "cause," like an impressive family history and genetic predisposition. I spray my hair with hairspray, and then look at the can and think, hmmmmmmmm. Or I eat a piece of sugar-free peppermint gum and think of how I've probably chewed millions of pieces of it. It's not a good use of mental energy, I find...

Nope... what side you sleep on has nothing to do with whether or not you get cancer.

Too bad it's not this easy, isn't it?  If we could all prevent cancer by sleeping on our backs that would be a wonderful thing.  However, cancer is ultimately all about changes in our cells' DNA, which cause the cells to mutate and reproduce in, er, interesting ways.  DNA is far too small to be affected by what side of our bodies we're on when we're snoring away.

Don't lose sleep over this!  (I couldn't resist.)

    Hi, Laura,

I smiled when I saw your post, you made my day. :)

Kleenex: I still can't sleep on my favourate side, the surgery is still making me painful now.
