Shopping for good foods....

Shopping for good foods is something I'm learning how to do.  I have, luckily, some places not too far away from my house that sell organic things.  Of course, since I have a lot to learn I have been reading books.  They have helped me learn about what's in season, how to know when it's fresh and good quality, what varieties taste best raw/cooked, some easy preparation/cooking instructions, what is unhealthy in terms of how it's grown, etc.   If you have any resources, books, or web sites that have helped you I'd love to know about them.

This time of year (probably all year where you are!) go to the Farmer's Markets and see what looks good. Ask the sellers for some ideas on how to prepare stuff you're not familiar with or new ways of preparing stuff you do know but are bored with. Deborah Madison's book "Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone" has lots of good ideas and it's divided up into veggies from A-Z (other stuff too).

I joined an organic Farm called Honeybrook Organic Farm "CSA" and pick up my share of vegetables each week from May to Novemeber .
