I love that you posted this....I'll post pictures tomorrow (after I take them...too late now).  We use all these herbs but the dill very often.

    Thanks cp418

Yes, thank you for this article. I've planted several herbs, but some are clearly missing. BTW, if anyone has a surefire, earth-friendly way to discourage bugs and the like from the herbs, I'd like to know it. I found a recipe for a spray made from dish soap, oil and peroxide and plan to try that first, but I'm just a novice.....

Can't wait to see your pics, Blundin!

Marin, I've never had bug problems with my herbs but I bet that ladybugs might do the trick for you.  You can often purchase a batch of ladies at a nursery.

We plant and use all the herbs listed, but my favourite, basil, is missing from the list!  I'm sure it must have some wonderful attributes besides exquisite taste, mustn't it???

    Cheers, Linda

Bugs only bother my basil, nothing else.  I think this year I'll stick some marigolds in the same pots and see if that helps.  We grow a couple dozen kinds of herbs and my herb garden is my pride and joy.

My herb garden is enjoying the sun.  I take cuttings, tie them in small bundles and dry them on the back wall.  I've been eating a strawberry a day as they bloom.  When I trimmed the thyme, I took some and chewed on it while I did my work.

So on the back wall is thyme, basil, rosemary, oregano, mint and sage.

flowers on the tomato plants ... isn't nature wonderful?

The basil isn't doing so well here....and the one plant that is doing well is being eaten by beatles...I'll try the soapy dishwater spray.

The herbs on the balcony (see above) are doing very well and no bugs.  The geranium help to deter them I'm told.  Maybe it's true.

    bon appetito!

Marin -- thanks for your comments ... By the way it's an apartment building.  Our apartment is on two floors about 120 sq. meters. .... small and manageable.  But we pack a lot of living into it.  I love this time of the year.  The spring wild flowers are so pretty.  But the sun is warming and they'll disappear soon.  And yes, visitors are welcome.  Let me know when you're in town.

I remember from your posts that you pay attention to healthy lifestyle including exercise.  I had a visit with my breast surgeon yesterday and she stresses this aspect every time I see her as our best defense.  Now that we have the dog, I walk more often and that's a good thing.  I tried to train Napo on a leash while I rode the bike ... he went one way and I went the other.  Scraped my knees!  But I'm determined to enlist his cooperation with this.  It saves my joints to ride the bike and it's aerobic .... it'll be fun to incorporate the two.

Best wishes to all as always
