Multifocal BC, worse, good, or same?

Hi,

My mom was dxed with multifocal BC, mixed lobular and ductal features. It prognosis the same or worse or better than just a single tumor? Also, how were you staged, adding them all or by the largest tumour dimension?  Really scared, thanks.

The prognosis is a little worse with multi-focal usually.  But it does depend on the charactaristics- like is the ductal in situ?  They usually stage by the largest tumor, and whether there are lymph nodes involved or not.  Take a deep breath and know that she will probably live for quite a long time. bc is not the death sentence it used to be.  I have mutli-focal cancer also, and have a very bright outlook.  Tami

Hi,

They were 1cm and 1.5 cm invasive with lobualr and ductal features admixed with lots of DCIS and some LCIS. Grade2, Er++,and HER-. 9/9 nodes clean.

I will take a deep breath and try not to be so scared.

Try not to stress.

I had 2 tiny tumours...1mm and 4mm...and did a lot of reading on this....

I read on a couple of sites,,,although can't remember where...that with early stage - node negative and multi-focal breast cancer that the survival is the same as with uni-focal breast cancer.
