Every news channel I turn on has shown an interview with this guy.  He wont be going away quietly, even though they offered him an honorable discharge if he would just go away.  The President has said that he will not get involved on an individual situation. WHAT??????  Ok so I voted for this guy and Im feeling kind of yucky about it tonight.  How the hell do you not get involved in an individual case?  You either believe its ok to boot a incredibly dedicated soldier out of the service because of who he loves...which by the way is really none of their DAMN BUSINESS ANYWAYS.....Or you dont, which it's kinda looking like our President is saying its ok.  Hmmmmm this is very disturbing.

I didn't see this story but I agree with you. The military's policy needs to change, and Obama should push to make this happen sooner rather than later. It is crazy that such discrimination still exists as official policy of our government.  It's just wrong.

I agree that Obama should push to make it happen NOW with an executive order. Screw the homophobes who say it won't work, because it works in other countries just fine and if we go with the notion that it won't work here, we're basically saying America tolerates  more institutional prejudice than other countries and that's fine.

SF- Are you talking about the asian gentleman that's part of the group of West Point LGBT Alums who so eloquently spoke about the desire to serve openly?

I find it hard to understand why any LGBT person would want to serve, they way we have been treated- but no one should be discriminated against.

If you are interested in information about fighting the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, go to www.sldn.org.

My daughter works for this organization and they not only work to repeal the policy but offer support to soldiers etc that have been discharged.  It's a great source to keep up with what individual politicians are saying and doing.

I was in the british services  during the 70's and 80's   and if it was found out Iwas gay  I would of been  kicked out with a criminal record.  I can see the reason behind not wanting gay's in the services, BUT   dont agree with it, the problem is when you  are in the services  you live very close together,  and I guess its the old idea of gay's that we want to jump in to bed with everyone (same sex) we clap eyes on.  un till this idea of us gay's is  got rid of  things wont change.

I'd like to see every single gay and lesbian soldier come out at once.  Let the military discharge them then..all at once.  That would create a government snafu.  Where would the replacements come from?  Bet Obama would step in then.  I voted for Obama as well but am beginning to think he was a cleverly disguised Republican.
