Possible to have ANOTHER UTI AND C. Diff.?
At the same time?!?!!?!
So, I was blessed with a really lousy UTI after surgery, got re-admitted, came home, and 2 days later was so sick I couldn't move. I got tested for C. Difficile (spelling?), and although the official results aren't in until tomorrow (Friday), the Flagyl I was put on stopped ALL of my problems immediately.
However.....today I began to have that dull, constant, extremely uncomfortable pain on my right side (just like I had from previous UTI). I haven't had a fever, chills, etc, just the pain. I haven't had the urge to pee, but when I do, it is very little output. There was a tinge of "color" when I wiped, it's hard to say if it was blood.......
So, my question is....
Really???????????? Oye.

I just have to sympathize with you....while I didn't have a UTI, I had c-diff after my 5th round of chemo. that and thrush, 3x.
I'm so sorry!
The only good news is that the Flagyl worked well for me. Though...I hated the metallic taste it gave me....chemo gave me enough of that thanks!
Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks, Lisa.
I am bumping, because I am hoping someone spots this right away and has an answer!
Love and prayers, Deb

I am not a doctor (and dont play one on tv) but I would think that you could get a UTI from the emmm....output issues...related to c diff. Especially if you are prone to them. It is also possible, in my uneducated opinion, that it was not completely gone and in your lowered resistance state, it just didnt go away
But, really, I dont know what the hell I am talking about. Hope you feel better soon.

Everyminute:
My thoughts exactly on the possibility. Thanks!
-
oh good - two of us dont know what we are talking about!!!! :-)

I'm not a physician, but I think its certainly possible to have 2 or more simultaneous infections.
When you take antibiotics for a UTI, it can change the normal flora that grow in the genital area.

I certainly think you should be giving your doc a call!

I would talk to the doctor as in my quick GOOGLE search UTI shows organisms are typically gram positive and C. Diff is gram negative. Don't ignore this organism.

So, I went to the doc today (took another day of my husband's vacation for it!!!!), and the urine test was okay. I insisted on an answer, he suggested that perhaps it is now constipation (quite likely, the Flagyl stopped the works immediately), but when I mentioned my latest CT results, he had to contact the hospital for the report.
He thinks I have/am at risk for some very huge and long medical term which stands for, "Your gallbladder isn't working quite right and that is likely the cause for your pain.' He gave me a script for an anti-spasm med, and it really has helped. I have to get some sort of scan that will show my gallbladder function (what's it called?! Can't remember!!).
I asked about the comments in the report regarding my liver, and he said it would show that as well.
Cancer is such a hoot.

Everyminute, I hope it didn't sound like I was agreeing that you don't know what you're talking about! Oh dear!
I was agreeing with the suggestion. I don't want to come across wrong-I sometimes wish we could leave messages by voice so you could hear my inflection!
-
:-) no I knew exactly what YOU meant - but I hope you follow up with a real doc!
no worries!
-
Hugs, my dear! I got meds, and hope to feel complete improvement (just wondering how toxic my system can possibly get with all the drugs I'm on!!!).
-
I sure hope you have COMPLETE improvement too! I'm glad you weren't in for an additional infection! Get well soon!
