Recent Dx of IDC and DCIS...Trying To Get a Grip
Hi Everyone,
I am new to the bc family and trying learn as much as possible before my first appointment with a surgeon. I am wondering if anyone can take a look at my pathology report and comment on it. I am all doom and gloom tonight and I can't sleep.
Here goes.....
Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma Grade II (MBRC)
Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ with High Grade Nuclei
Positive For Estrogen And Progesterone Receptors
Microscopic Description:
The sections below show breast tissue infiltrated by carcinoma with moderate tubule formation ( tubule formation score = 2)
Tumor cells posses medium to large ovoid pleomorphic nuclei, coarse to vescular chromatin, nucleoli, and moderate amphophilic cytoplasm ( nuclear pleomorphism score = 3)
Up to 7 mitosis per 10 HPF are identified (mitosis score = 1)
High grade DCIS is seen.
Well-controlled immunohistochemistries are performed.
The invasive tumor cells are 3+ for estrogen and progesterone receptors.
(FFPE; positive defined as nuclear staining in >1% of tumor cells; Clones; ER (DAKO ID5), PR )Novocastra PGR-312); Detection Bond Refine).

Hi Grace. I wish I had words of wisdom and I'm sure someone here has better knowledge. The only thing I know is that "in-situ" I think, means it didn't spread to the outside area. When you see your oncologist they'll be able to explain everything to a T. Please let us know how you make out.

Hi Grace,
It is scary isn't it? You will make it through all this. Your oncologist will be able to explain everything better, but your path report does say that you have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma as well as DCIS. There is usually more than one DCIS and one of yours turned into IDC which is the case with most of us. Only 1 cm is small. ER+/PR+ is actually a good thing. It means it is hormone feed and you can take chemo pills that will block the hormones that are feeding the tumor. That is about all that I really know, hope this eases your mind a little.
Come here often and read lots, we are in this together and we are here for each other.

Hi,
Yes, is is scary. It is very scary. I am just concerned that I have more going on than is what in the report. I am not scheduled to see the surgeon until the 4th of May but I am ready to have this out yesterday.
Thank you for your support.
Love, hugs and prayers.

Grace,
I know this is all very frightening but so far you are at Stage 1 which is very treatable. As Deb said, the good things on the path report are: positive estrogen and progesterone receptors, 1cm size, and low mitotic rate (that means the cells are not dividing quickly). I had a similar pathology report but had many areas of DCIS throughout the breast and a 1.3 cm area of IDC. Even so, I'm still at Stage I and may be done with treatment (except for tamoxifen) since I had mastectomy.
The waiting is one of the hardest parts of this wild ride we are all on. Come here often for support; there are so many amazing women here that will help you through this.
