please can anybody help me??
hi all,
i just wanted to first say that i am so inspired by all of you, my mum was diagnosed with ibc on 3rd dec 08, it came at such a bad time and took each and every one of us by surprise. i personally felt as if my life couldn't get any worse but i knew i had to stand up and be strong for the most important person in my life, it has been the hardest most horrible journey of our lives. she has now had all her chemotherapy and lost her hair and had all the ups and downs like everyone else, (she looks gorgeous with no hair). the chemo worked really well and when they gave her a scan to put a marker in for surgery they couldn't find the tumour. which is amazing, but on monday 20th april she had the surgery done any way. they only removed a tiny bit of the breast and some lymph nodes under her arm, she's recovering really well now, she has to go back on wed 29th to get some more results and she starts 5 weeks of radiotherapy every day on the 1st june, although she amazing and is being so strong, it is still so hard. she doesn't want to know if it has spread and she wont really talk about it, i'm very sorry and i don't mean to be silly but i was wondering if anybody could actually give me some information on ibc, it's all very well looking on the internet but i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer and i don't really understand it all. i feel completly foolish and now i'm crying, but all i want to do is find out some information. each and every one of you are amazing, thankyou so much for taking the time to read my essay, i would liked to be a little bit more clued up, cause we're all going through it aswell, i hope this all makes sense as i'm not the best at things like this, good luck to all of you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

First- are you sure your mom has IBC - that is inflammatory breast cancer and usually only affects the skin -so she wouldn't have a lumpectomy. (I think- someone correct me if I am wrong). It sounds like your mom has IDC- invasive ductal carcinoma? It sounds like she is doing fantastic, and that you are her rock. It is ok to feel the way you are feeling...Let us know which diagnosis she has for sure and there will be other people come along to fill you in. It is such a hard thing to go through as a family, but it is doable and will probably make you closer and more appreciative of each other. I think she has the hardest part behind her. Radiation is pretty easy, it will make her tired, but will not make her sick. GOd bless you for being there to help her. Tami (it would also be easier to answer your questions and give you info if you posted her stats- grade, ER-PR status, stage, etc.)

I agree with Idaho. IBC means a mastectomy. Because of the skin and tissue that is involved.
Your mom is so lucky to have you. Hope all goes well for her.
Hugs,
Debra
