Juicing
I have some questions about juicing I hope some of you can help answer. I started juicing a couple of months ago and I really like the veggie juices and learned that I can drink just about any kind with a straw! I have an embarrassing question: Did any of you juicing have a change in your bowl movements? I also have alot of urinary tract irritation and it seems like when I back off of juicing it gets better. I feel more energetic and just over all healthier juicing. I don't know if this is just temporary, my body getting used to it or what. The main thing I'm juicing are carrotts. Any helpful suggestions?

If you go to www.crazysexycancer.com, there is a blog and a forum and a lot of discussion of juicing. I am just starting to juice regularly, and was just reading that eating more fruits and vegetables in general will make your bowels move more often--but that it's totally normal.
You do have to be a little careful if you are juicing lots of carrots every day, as you can reach a point where your skin takes on an orange hue (temporarily). It's not bad for you, just looks weird.
Try juicing carrots plus apple plus celery. Yummy!

I juice and don't know if urinary is a symptom, but more often bowel movements is a benefit with juicing. Are you taking other supplements that could be doing this? I hope you can figure out what is giving you problems. Trying changing your ingredients around. I look around and see if I can find some info.

This is what I enjoy juicing. Organic broccoli, kale, spinach and white button mushrooms and if I can find organic ginger, all the better to add some zing! It's always good to switch off to other veggies if you suspect a problem. Let spinach take the place of the carrots and see what happens.

Lots of fruit and some veggies can cause problems because of the "sugar" levels. Yes its natural but too much sugar is too much sugar. You might want to vary what you're blending together. I usually throw in whatever I have around---carrots, kale, spinich, radishes, ginger, celery, green/red/yellow peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, whatever you find. If you don't like the "green taste" I find a few grapes or 1/2 apple makes it less green.

I have had a UTI for 3 weeks, its been awful, I juice every day, I didn't think that might be the cause.......I also take a bunch of supplements, could any supplements cause UTI's? I juice carrots, kale, broccoli, spinach, parsley, cucumber, apple, also I drink about 32oz of this per day, is that too much?

here's an odd combo using rhubarb if you have it. comes out tasting exotic, like mangoes & peaches:
1 apple, 1 carrot, 1/2 orange, small handful parsley, 2 fresh mint leaves, 1 small rhubarb stalk

See what happens if you back off for a bit, everyone is different but I wonder...
-
EWB, thanks...It never really dawned on me, but you are right sugar is sugar! I drink so much because I have a really hard time eating that many veggies a day!
thanks for the info!! I also read that UTI's can be caused by estrogen depletion, I guess the uretha gets irritated easier when estrogen is low, so UTI's go along with vaginal atrophy........ jeez anything else!!!

Since you are juicing, it gets digested faster, right to the blood stream, which is usually good, however....
. Hoping things heal quickly, utis are no fun. I would think lots of water, unsweetened cranberry juice, and a visit to doc. Not something you want to let go for too long.

EWB, have been on antibiotics for a week, and just started another week of them because its not gone away completely, thats the reason its making me think it may be another issue, they took another urine sample this morning to see if I still had bacteria, so we shall see! I drink water all day long! very annoying I must say!!

fairy,
Where you get your juice, are they using organic veggies? I think I'd back off for a bit just to see if you heal. Infection of the bladder (cystitis) is usually caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli), a species of bacteria commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract.
Juicing ginger supposedly makes life miserable for bacteria like H. pylori to form and colonize in our stomachs. Whether it works for e.coli is unknown by me, but I always juice with ginger just in case it helps for other types of bacteria.
Just in case you didn't read the starter of this thread, you and TammyJ both are juicing carrots, and both seem to having the same problem.

Rosemary..........ummmmmm........very interesting, my urine test said E.coli, so does that originate in the gastrointestinal tract? I am very careful with wiping, so was wondering how I managed to get E.coli in my bladder, now you mention it I think they only use SOME organic veggies for their juices. I am going to stop for a while and see what happens, thank you so much for all of the input, I shall keep you posted!

Good luck and hope things heal quickly! Infections are no fun

fairy, so sorry you're having such a prolonged round with a UTI. I've never had one, but my mom has had them chronically for years, and now it's turned into something called urethral syndrome. You've reminded me that I need to search out information on that again. When I first looked, it's mostly women who suffer from it, and the doctors seem to just shrug their shoulders and scratch their heads and offer nothing helpful for a solution. Hope you get relief real soon.
-
Lorraine,
Maybe its a different strain then the ones cows have? I was surprised that we can run around with e.coli in our gastro tract and we're not throwing up or something. I really don't know enough about it. Maybe you should start munching on craisins also.

fairy - I have read where blueberry juice is better than cranberry juice for bladder problems. Make sure you are taking acidopholis (spelling) to get that good bacteria back in after antibiotics.

Hi ladies! I have been on antibiotics for almost a week, this was my second round of them since this started almost 4 weeks ago, knock on wood, seems to have worked this time, plus I haven't had any juice in a week either, ummmm......I love the juicing, but if its going to cause these kind of problems I will skip it! I did buy a powder called "Field of Greens" which you mix with water, or juice and it has concentrated veggies, fruits etc in it, this may be a safer option for me moving forward! we shall see!!
Sea, thanks for the info on blueberry juice, the sugar free cranberry is nasty LOL!! I will start the probotics tomorrow once the antibiotics are done! Thanks all for caring!!
