Reglan Prescription for Nausea - Another Diagnosis

Just want to pass along this warning to all of you who have been prescribed the drug Reglan for control of nausea during chemo.  (This drug is also given to assist new mothers who are not producing enough milk, and to schizophrenics.)   After three weeks of use of Reglan, I began to experience problems with my teeth.  Complained to onc each visit, but just thought it was dental related.  Then started having problems controlling my tongue...involuntary movements and constantly rubbing against the roof of my mouth, and the left side teeth.  Still no solution from the oncologist.  Next starting having severe anxiety, and gastro intestinal problems that persisted.  Stopped the drug after completion of chemo, but symptoms continued.  Now, six months out of all treatment, the neurologist has diagnosed tardive dyskinesia, caused by the use of Reglan.  This is an irreversible disease, that can only be treated for symptoms with things like muscle relaxers and anti-anxiety meds, both of which have horrid side effects.  It could become debilitating, and causes social detatchment because of the facial distortions.  Just a nasty disease.  After stopping the drug, the neurologis says it is possible the symptoms may lessen or even go away over time....probably years.  Or, the worst that could happen is that it progresses into something that most people are disfigured.  Just to stop nausea.  Please be warned, and question when doctors prescribe anti-psychotic drugs for things as simple as nausea.  I probably would have taken anything to get rid of nausea at the time, but sure learned my lesson about checking out drugs before taking.  Hope this posting help someone avoid this horrible situation.
