I was just told by my Onc that I will have to undergo dual chemo treatment of both types chemo.  I was wondering if there were any others out there who might be able to shed some light as to the side effects of the treatment and how to effectively lessen those.

The tumor is my breast has shrunk and is receptive to the Herceptin.  However, the tumors on my spine have grown and I now have new tumors. Thus the treatment with the Avastin.

I hv stage IV bc with spots in my chest, sternum, neck. I have had 4 treatments with Avastin and it has same side effects as the chemo drugs.  I will get my scan in 2 wks. and see if effected the other spots.  Hang in there.  I did some research on the Avastin and appears to be on the newly released drug as of 12/08.  With studies resulting in good results.  Hoping you and I get the same good results.  Hang in there....

I am taking abraxane & avastin since Nov 08 for local recurrence to sternum, then addition of skin mets to abdomen. The results have been impressive since although I did first do 33 IMRT rads on the sternum which started to shrink the mass, once the A/A was started the skin mets disappeard totally on the first treatment and subsequent scans have shown more shrinkage of the mass.

Side effects for me was of course hair loss, bloody nose (especially in the morning) congested nose that I used saline nasal spray to clear up easily. And on the days I got both meds together I had achey bones that tylenol or motrin would clear up easily. On the days I onle got the abraxane no problem except usual fatigue that comes with chemo. No stomach problems at all for me.

     Good luck!

Thank you for the good report.  Sorry it has taken me so long to respond.  I am now on my 3rd A/A.  I ma having such difficulty with 2 things.  Mostly, the nausea after they remove the pump, and then I have horrible constipation.  I always try to prepare for it, but every singe time it is miserable.  Any other words of advice you might have?

    I appreciate it all!!
