Treatment with Abraxane

My MIL is going to start on the drug, Abraxane.  Has anyone else used this drug?  If so, are there any unusual side effects that we should know about?

She was told there are only a few drugs left for her to try.  Her CA levels were stabilized at around 200 until a couple of months ago but they have gone back up at a steady rate to 1300.

I am still trying to understand all the lingo and familiarize myself with things with reference to this type of cancer and cancer in general so please forgive my ignorance in this matter.  I am just trying to make sense of this type of breast cancer.  Typically if someone is at that CA level, does anyone have an idea about how long a person can live with such high levels of this CA?

Additionally, she keeps getting painful fluid build up on her abdomen.  Is that normal?

    ChrisFishSchmidt:

There is no need to apologize about asking any type of questions.  IBC is such a rare type of cancer and that everyone has different symptoms.   As for you MIL's ca levels I do not understand them myself I would check with her onc regarding that question.

Has she ever had the fluid drained off her abdomen? They may be able to put a drain and surgical garment around her abdomen to keep the fluid from build up.  I know that when I had my mastectomy I was put into a surgical bra type garment this along with the drains helped keep the fluid from building up.

My prays go out to your MIL and your family.

    Hugs

I have had one treatment with Abraxane just a week ago today.  I felt pretty good for the first two days, then, of course, crashed.  Some of my side effects have been leg, foot, and hand pain, neuropathy, dry mouth, diahrrea, and kidney pain with strange frequency of urination (can't go much, but feel as if I need to go).  I've slept more than usual each day.  Today, however, I feel pretty good, have much more energy, and feel as if I've turned a corner.

Some of the joint and leg pains may have been from the Neulasta shot I received the day after chemo.
