Checking In After A Long Time Not being Here

Hello everyone,

I don't know if you all remember me. The last time I was here was Jan.'08.  I had just finished rads and was waiting to have my ovaries removed and have genetic testing done.

Alot has happened since my last visit, but I'm pleased to say that I'm currently NED.

I have had my ovaries taken out and I healed well from that. But I'm now dealing with horrible menopause and it's side effects. I'm only 38 but feel like my body has aged 20 yrs..                     I've also had my genetic testing done and the results came back neg.. However, when I had the genetic counselling before the testing I was advised that no matter what the results were, I'd still be concidered high risk of re-occurance because I have a very strong genetic history.                So I'm still having 3 monthly checks with my oncologist. She's keeping a really close eye on me.

I am currently on Tamoxifen although my onco. is giving me a short break from it because I have been really ill from the side effects. She's planning on try me on it again when I have my next appointment with her in April. I'm nervous about going back on it though. I have had a horrid time on it. And i didn't do well on Arimidex either. Might have to try something else.

But on the positive side, I'm feel really well at the moment and have been able to get back to some sort of a "normal" life.

So that's my update.

I do plan to checkin more often than I have been.

I am newly diagnosed and wasn't here in January 08 but welcome back!  You've had a busy year and I'm sorry you are suffering on the tamox.  What are some of your side effects that are causing you problems?

Congrats on being NED and I hope you and your doctor find a medication that works for you.
