Grandchildren and everything about them...
I am madly trying to figure out how to post pix of my two wonderful little ones, but I think it's going to have to wait until tomorrow. I don't have the energy to do it right now, since I suspect I'll have to upload my photos to Photobucket. The pictures other people posted on the thread we had going before were adorable.
Our daughter is getting married in October and says they want to have children soon. Can't wait for more little ones.

Grandkids are the best. I have a 22 month old granddaughter that I can't see often enough, and they live with us! LOL My daughter and SIL are expecting another child at the end of July. I can't wait! They truly make life worth living! Their innocence and excitement at almost nothing are to be treasured. I remember my mother telling me how great it was to be a grandmother--that it was so different from being a mom, and that I'd know what she meant when it happened to me. She was so right. And my mom is in her early 80s and so excited to have another great grandbaby to spoil!!
Life is good.

Ooooh, I just love my grandchildren.
They range from 20 years to 10 weeks..7 of them...and I could just eat them all !!
I am very involved with 4 of them,3 live further away, so I get a 20 going on 40 yr old crazy young man at one end getting himself in and out of terrible scrapes with girls and cars, thru to teen tantrums, slamming out of their mothers house, and 'running away' to Grans for a few days ! Down to my latest star, just 10 weeks now. I've already had her for 2 sleepovers, and took her 'swimming' to our local pool last week.
There is just something about these kids, I love them as if they WERE my own...good god they cost me a small fortune...I never had much spare cash when my own two children were small, but now I help out where I can, be it a new baby buggy, driving lessons, or, in the case of my naughty 20 yr old grandson a new suit for his latest court appearance.. even tho' he's looking at either a spell 'inside' or his licence taken away this time, or both ( which he certainly deserves ! )....takes the pressure off my own kids budgets.
I have just nicely started up my own business again, I don't need to work, my pensions have all clicked into place, but I just can't slob around the house all day looking for things to do, so all I now earn goes to the little ones, I'd rather see them actually getting a benefit right now, than have them wait 'til I pop off and not know what they're going to do with my cash !! The rate the little monkeys are spending it now there won't be anything left, and the rate our government is taxing us they won't get much benefit. As it is now, what I spend my cash on does not concern the tax man, so I can walk out and buy a buggy without question. Leave the same amount of cash to a grandchild, and they'll get 40% off straight away in tax, so they can only buy half a buggy, so, they're getting it now.
I know I owe everything I am now to my 2 grandmothers, they were there for me for years to help out, so now I am just doing what families do the world over.
Isabella.

I just love my granddaughter. She is the "cat's meow" as far as I'm concerned. I love her belly laugh, and her big smile. I love when she takes me by the hand and leads me to the place she wants me to sit so I can play with her. I love her running from the front of my house to the back, while trying to not get "caught" and tickled by grandpa or me. She has named my "abba," but doesn't call my hubby anything yet.
My son-in-law, daughter, and grandbaby have moved in with us. We are in the front of the house with the 2 dogs and 1 cat. They have the back of the house. We cook dinner together 4-5 times a week, and the other days we are on our own. It has worked out nicely. I love being able to spend time with my granddaughter (Lexi) on a daily basis. And even though they live with us, they aren't taking advantage of us at all when it comes to babysitting--in fact, sometimes I wish they would ask us more often!
My daughter & sil are expecting another baby the end of July. We will find out next doc visit if it's a boy or girl. Last visit was unsuccessful--as head was in the way.
I want to get the quilt done before she/he is born, but can't start it until we know what "it" will be. LOL
Off to make sunday breakfast for the family--thin pancakes--recipe from my Finnish relatives. Very yummy!

I have a new grandson who should arrive any day now and I'm so excited. This will make three little boys for us and the older two are so precious. I envy you grandmas who live within quick driving distance of your grandchildren I live in Illinois and mine are in Kentucky and I feel that I am missing so much. I try to get there as often as possible to get my hands on them, but it would be so nice just to be able to pick them up some afternoon and take them for an ice cream cone or go to see their T-ball game.
Hey, Grace, those pancakes sound wonderful. I'm of Danish descent and grew up on wonderful pastries.

Still haven't put up a picture. I love hearing about all of your grandchildren. Must be nice to live in the same house, Grace. Sounds like it's working really well. Over the weekend we took our two (5 and 7) to the Children's Museum--what fun--so nice to have an excuse to go there and see the world through their eyes. Ritajean, you have to "snatch" them for a weekend or something!!

How do you grandmas handle your loss of hair with your grandchildren? My grandchildren are ages 7, 5, 2 and 6 mos. Do you ever "reveal" your baldness to them? How do they react? What do you say about it to them?
-
I didn't lose my hair (no chemo), but did want to explain my BLM to my grandson, age 7 (my grandaughter of 5 has Down Syndrome, so I didn't attempt anything complicated with her). Ever since he was little and riding in his car seat in my car, I've given him an umbrella with a duck handle to hold. It usually is held upright, looking at him. "Duckie" asks a lot of questions (he sounds something like grandma, but with a more duck-like voice...) and then grandma answers them. Duckie often is fearful of what might be going on with grandma going to a hospital, and if she's going to be okay. He also was wondering about whether grandma would be able to do all the stuff she usually does with the kids. One time he asked if he was worried, could he just ask some more questions? Amazing the things that duck came up with. Then sometimes my grandson tells duckie that things will be okay, and he shouldn't worry, etc., and really gets into the whole business of helping duckie calm his fears or help him.
-
Thank you Northstar. What a creative way to communicate to your grandson in a non-scary way. I will try to come up with something like that... to give them an avenue for dialog. Thanks again.

Hi everyone,
I have so enjoyed reading about all your beautiful grandchildren! Congratulations to all of you who have lots of them, are awaiting them, and have new ones! Being a grandma is indeed the best!! I have figured out why being a granny is such a wonderful feeling-- they need and want us just for who we are, and love us no matter how fat, bald, or silly we are, right?
I am still on a granny-high after a visit with my grandson Mason last week. He and my daughter and SIL live about two hours east of here, and I just don't get to see them often enough. He is the cutie in my avatar, and here is a recent photo of him at 13 months, jabbering and trying to make a phone call. This was taken at my parents' home on my dad's 80th birthday. Seeing my parents play with their great-grandchild is just absolutely awesome-- how fortunate I am!!
I really look forward to seeing photos of everyone's grandbabies here soon, ok?
Love to all!

Yay! this is the forum for me. I just found this site today. My daughter lives one street away with her husband and beautiful 5 year old - and there will be a new baby in September. I will be starting chemo in late April or early May. Does anyone have experience to suggest how I will feel five or six months into chemo? I intend to enjoy that new baby no matter what! So far the 5 year old knows that I have a "bad boo boo in my boob", the doctor fixed it and next I will have some more medicine to make sure the boo boo stays away. That's about how much I wanted to tell my 94 year old father, but he is too bright for the watered down version.

I'm in "Grandma-heaven" as my 3 grands live about 20 minutes down the road. My other grands, who are 'technically' my step-grands (if there is such a concept) -- live clear across country and are expecting the third in that family as summer arrives.
These are our twins, who I've dubbed the babeez..... who are approaching their first birthday in a couple of weeks. They have an older brother who will be 3 on Friday. So there are two years and five days between them. (Ye gads. Yes. I moved in w/DD for five months to help run the circus act as she was bed ridden at the end of her twins pregnancy and her DH was stationed away with the Air Force at the time. Story has happy ending as daddy was able to receive medical leave and arrived for their birth, staying a couple of days and returning when they were about 3 months old.)
Anyhow. They picked me up at the airport on Thurs of last week and we were playing in my back yard and this is the moment when they "discovered" grass. It was such a hoot. They each kept 'patting' it over & over and giggling, baby giggles
It is virtually 'impossible' to get all three into one picture, so I'm happy when I get two outta three.

Oh, I can join this thread.I became a grandma for the first time 8 weeks ago today. Her name is Marley Marie. I have been so thrilled since the day she was born. My DD lives 1 hour and 15 minutes away and almost every weekend I drive up there to see them. They are such a cute family to watch. Everything new for them...ah to be young and starting a family!! I just love Marley so much. She is certainly a gift from God.Today was her first Easter and it was so great!! That is me and her in my avatar.
Faith, I can't believe the twins are nearing their first bday. I remember last year when they were born and everyone was guessing the date and time!!!
Hugs and prayers

Oh Mary Jo....Mason is such a cutie!
Candie...I love your avatar. Both you and Marley are gorgeous. I've never seen a picture of you before, but I knew you'd be beautiful because you helped me so much as I went through my journey and I'll never forget that! So, enjoy that little gal! She is indeed a gift.
Faithandfifty...TWINS! How fun and how cute!!! These grandkids DO give new meaning to holidays, don't they?
I just got back from KY and weekend with my son, DIL, and three little grandsons. I held Evan, my new grandson, every chance I got. There's nothing like that "new baby smell!" Then the other two showed me how to color eggs! We decorated them with superhero stickers and of course they were "beautiful!" Alex (age 5) had a T-ball game so I got to see him play ball and that was an entertaining time! Then we shopped and purchased Grant, the middle boy, his first 2-wheel bike with training wheels. What a wonderful weekend!
I have lots of pictures on my camera and I'll try to get some posted this week. I'm not too good with technology so it may take a few frustrating tries before I get it accomplished, but I'm such a proud Grandma that I'll eventually get it done!
Hugs to all you Grandmas and those special little bundles of joy and energy that we've been given!

Good Evening Grandma's! I have 3 grandsons who are the love of my life! Dylan was 4 in Feb, Zach will be 3 in July and Jacob will be 2 in May. Dylan and Jacob live only 6 minutes from us so we spend a lot of time with them. We see Zach about once a week/2weeks. There is something special about being a grandma - seems we take the time to enjoy the little things in their lives. When my children were younger I was so busy working, cleaning and taking care of them, I don't remember every little detail. But I am taking time to do that with my 3 grandboys!
McLouLou - I wore a head covering most of the time when the boys were around. They didn't like it the first time they saw me with a scarf on - but they love you for who you are and they just move on. They wer only 3,2 and 1 at the time so it was a little hard to explain in terms they understood so we just told them that grandma had to wear some hats for awhile. They did see me bald a few times( we told them grandma has really short hair for awhile - I never was completely bald) but for our family it was no big deal - my DH and my daughters never had problems with my baldness so I was very comfortable being bald at home. My son didn't really have problems with my baldness - it bothered me and I didn't feel as comfortable going "hatless" when he was around.
lassie11 -I had TC starting in March of 08 - finished in May and was feeling pretty "normal" by the end of June - so hoping you feel the same and have lots of energy for your new grandchild in Sept. My biggest problem was pain and tenderness from lumpectomy and SNB - seems those little guys were always accidentally bumping my left breast!!!
faithandfifty - the twins are adorable! My oldest are twins and I remember those days of having 2 little ones at the same time!

Rita Jean. What a lovely set of boys. How did you get them all to cooperate to smile at the same time??
Today was my WonderBoy's 3rd birthday. Here's a glimpse into our day at the zoo:

Goodmorning all you grammas! Just wanted to let you all know about my NEWEST love of my life..On Tuesday 12th of May my granddaughter gave birth to her 1st baby girl. So, I am a Great-Grandma again and I truely LOVE IT...6 grandkids and 2 Great Grandbabies I don't feel old enough to be one (61) but what the heck..young enough to really enjoy them all!
Like someone once told me...IF you'd know how fun being a granny was, you'd have skipped parenthood and went right to grandparenthood! lol...They are truely a blessing!

I love being a grandma too. It is the best thing. All of you have such beautiful grandchildren. I have one that is 18, another grandson that is 11 and a granddaughter that is 7. I usually have the 11 year old or the 7 year old on the weekends. the 18 year old lives on the east coast so don't get to see him but 2 or 3 times a year. Am so proud of all of them.
the first is gd catching first fish, then grandson looking kind of surprised. Will post a picture of the teenager when we return from his graduation.
Yea, for grandkids. They are so special, love em, spoil em rotten, and hand em back.
-
Wow. Northstar, what a creative way to dialogue the tough things (as well as the fun things, I am certain)! You have really given ME, and surely lots of our other 'sisters' a great idea!
Hugs!!

Eight grandbabies ranging from 21 to not yet two. (A couple are "steps" but not sure which ones!!!) Love them all like crazy! And, for sure, it is more fun to be grandma than it ever was being mom. I was divorced, raising my two kids and working 6 days a week to make ends meet. Not much play time with them when my kids were little, so I cherish the playtime with each grandkid. All live about a half day's drive so we visit back and forth as often as we can. They love coming to our house in the summer--we have a boat, lake, fishing, swimming pools, golf for the older ones, miniature golf for the young ones, rides in the golf cart, a huge yard for games, lots of wild life for the city kids to watch for. And, for rainy days, a big box of inside stuff to play with--some things that kids today have never experienced--no video games--crazy things like jacks, pick-up sticks, board games, fun books, crayons and color books, blank paper to freelance on, construction paper, checkers; we'll make baker's dough (the kids get to do all the kneading and adding food coloring!--takes forever to get that dough mixed good, great for a miserable, cold rainy day!) Summer is here and I can't wait!!!!
