Herceptin after Surgery and Chemo
Hi All,
I'm new to this forum. I'm triple positive, ER++, PR++,HER+++
I had sergery in last Oct to cut right breast with 1.2cm and 4 rounds of Chemo.
Now, I'm on hormone therapy. My Doc recommend me to herceptin, 1 year / 3-week.
I read about how herceptin work on tumors before surgery.
But i did not find any infomation about how herceptin work on people that had tumors removed.
Any of you had / having herceptin after removing tumors?
I have to answer my Doc whether to go on with Herceptin or not.
Your advices and experience would be great help for me.
Lana,

Hi Lana-
I am new to this forum also but people are so kind and helpful. I am sure you will get a response. I am curious to hear what others have to say because I will start Herceptin after my surgery also.
Very best to you,
Maureen

I had Herceptin after surgery, chemo and rads. It worked great for me. I am currently cancer free!

I am currently having Herceptin with chemo. Will finish chemo on April 24th (WHOO HOO!) and will continue on Herceptin every three weeks until January 2010 (One year from when I began.)
From what I understand, Herceptin is a targeted therapy given after surgery and the general consensus is a more positive efficacy when administered with chemo first and then continuing alone for one year. Current studies are underway to determine whether it might prove more successful continuing treatment past that year. I expect that I will know more about that before my year is up.
Best of luck to you and keep coming here for support. It is a wonderful gift for those of us having this difficult journey.

from my understanding, all HER2 tumors should be treated with Herceptin for 1 year.

Lana,
Early stage Her2 positive breast cancer is treated with one year of herceptin after surgery and chemotherapy. Treatment with herceptin cuts the possibility of recurrence in half.
Scroll down the page with all the forum names. You will find a forum for Her2 positive cancer. There is a lot of information there.
