Thanks for sharing!  I wonder if drinking 1-2 drinks per week has the same increase in risk as 1-2 drinks per day??  I love my wine & margarita's :(

I believe the study compared women who drink two or less drinks per week with women who drink anything more than that.

This confirms what other studies have shown, which is that even one drink a day increases BC risk.  No news here, except that this is considered to be large, and therefore reliable, study.

But from previous studies there already is an understanding of why BC risk is increased by alcohol consumption - it's because alcohol inhibits the body's ability to absorb folic acid.  And what other studies have shown is that by increasing folic acid intake, one can completely reverse the negative affect of alcohol consumption.  Unforunately because this study looked at the general population, there was no ability to incorporate factors such as this.  So for me, the information available from this study doesn't tell us anything new and it's incomplete.  It just happens to be newsworthy because there's nothing better than telling people that alcohol is bad.  And there's nothing better than finding some controllable cause for breast cancer.
