CT scans normal order?

My oncologist ordered CT scans of my liver.  I'm not sure why?  Is this a normal order or is it only done when something is suspected.

If something is suspected, what suspicious factors can I look for on my path report?  I have no pain or tenderness.

I know that my chemo screwed up my liver numbers.  Maybe your numbers went a little haywire and your doctor just wants to be sure?  My numbers eventually came back down so I don't think they're worried about my liver anymore.  Just a thought?

Well, I haven't had chemo yet, just a bilateral mastectomy.  These would be pre-chemo orders.  Thanks for the input though.  I appreciate it.

CrystalLocket....Looking at your stats I don't imagine they would worry much about your liver at this point. Are you considering being in a clinical trial, if so, they often require more up front tests? Don't worry at this point. I have worried myself sick at times and most times it was over nothing. Once you are dx I think our minds always go to the negative....take your mind to the positive and don't worry until you have a definite problem...JudyO

Thanks, your right.  I haven't evewn talked about treatment yet, I'm waiting on my oncotype score first.  Maybe my doctor can see my hesitiation regarding chemo and just wants to check it out first?

I had a baseline chest/abdominal CT and a bone scan before chemo. I'd ask why he's specifically looking at your liver and not at other parts.

I had a PET SCAN after biopsy, before Lump and any treatments started.

When you say problems, do you mean cancer in my liver?  Oh geez.  I just looked at my report and it says "elevated liver enzymes".  Really starting to freak out here.

It was my CBC presurgery and I do not know the exact values.

Hi Crystal,  I'm not sure where you are getting your treatment, but it may just be their protocol.  I had to have a liver/abdominal/uterine CT scan as part of my pre-chemo workup.  They had me really worried too, but they were just being overly cautious or I have good insurance!  :)

I really got frightened when my CT scan showed several (4) areas of interest so then I had to have an ultrasound of my liver.  It determined 3 of the spots were hemagiomas, a group of birthmark like blood vessels. The 4th was inconclusive so I had to have an mri.  Eventually everything turned out clear (except for my breast), but it's a very scary road they take us on with all the tests.

If you haven't gotten a copy yet, may I suggest Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book.  It's a great resource.  There are also a lot of great women on these boards and we are all here for each other!

Take care & please let us know how you are doing!

Thanks so much ladies.  I don't know what I would do without this board and the ladies on it.  I am trying not to stress and just figures that it's out of my hands at this time anyway.  Thanks so much.
