Confused - Need opinions and support...Alone at Mayo

Options

Hi Everyone,

Not sure where to post so I am here. I hope I can get some opinions. Perhaps this should also be in the lymphadema area.

Had surgery on Aug 26.08 - got a very larger henatoma. It is STILL healing, now about 5cm with scar tissure making it 8cm.  Anyway At Mayo right now and they want me to do a MRI and posible biopsy to check the scar tissue. Very scared to have any needle put in because I am first healing.  There is one suspicious area they are not 100% sure it is scar tissue. Do not get along with the oncologist that is assigned to me. He ordered MRI of breasts and stereotactic mqmmo biopsy. When I questioned it he said that I would negotiate , he has 0 bedside manner and I am here alone...

Don't know what to do. Any thoughts or suggestions would be gratefully accepted. Also Is anyone here at Mayo now? Would like to share a lunch or something?? I have a good PT person finally which is helping my breast.

Impt question- Is it o.k. to massage the breast if there is a susupicion of cancer??? thanks again

Love & Blessings To All

Hi Naturelover,  This is not an easy disease to navigate.  Always seems to be another hurdle just when you think it will calm down.  I know your frustration.  I go to Mayo in Phx.  where are you?  I am sorry you are alone and going through this.  I had the stereotactic biopsy on three tumors.  It was not too bad.  Honestly!  You may not have as much feeling around the scar tissue and they numb it very well.   I don't know about the massaging.....Take some deep breaths and know you are strong and always supported here.  If you are in Phoenix we have a wonderful group of sisters from here, and I would love to have lunch with you

    Hugs, Karen

    Hi Naturelover --

It's double awful when your doctor is not kind!! i'm not at Mayo, or i'd love to have lunch with you. I went there 2x last summer -- once for a 2nd opinion on possible lymphedema, once for a 2nd opinion on widespread hyperplasia. I was in MN and saw Dr Sandhu -- she was terrific -- really gentle, which i needed at that point! In fact, everyone at Mayo was considerate and treated me like an intelligent human being all the way through. It's really awful when they don't, especially in this situation... i'm so sorry you got an obnoxious one.

If you're worried about lymphedema (and assuming you're in MN), they have a LE clinic. i saw Dr Schmidt there -- very thoughtful, and one of the few MDs who specializes in lymphedema; he really set my mind at ease about some swelling i have.

Good luck! I hope you can hook up with someone in town, being aone makes everything so much worse!

    Hi Naturelover

Sorry to hear that you are having such a challenge with your oncologist.  I would suggest that you ask to see a social worker, who may be able to help you to find out more information and negotiate with your onc.

    I wish you well

    Naturelover,

Just want to send you all good wishes that everything turns out in your favor.

How's about "accidentally" tripping that nasty oncologist as he's walking Wink Wink Laughing.

If I was near Mayo, I'd love to come and see ya!

I'm concerned about Naturelover.  She hasn't signed in since 2/20.

Does anybody know how she's doing?

    Hi Jelly,

Thanks for your concern.  Having a tough time... Went for a breast MRI on Mon , just as I was supposed to do it and they refused to do it. I have had 2 other breast MRI's slight allergic reaction to gad contrast. I told them I wanted to do it anyway and use benadral . So I am here spinning my wheels. Ready to go back to WI but w/o clear answers... They didn't do a petscan/ct or anything much. Pt guy is great and is helping to heal the breast but is massaging it.  Anyway they want me to do steroids to do MRI and I am afraid of steroids. So thats my story, not a fun one. Maybe I shopuld post and ask if anyone knows about steroids.

    Chat soon
