CT versus MRI

Hi,

I was wondering, does anyone know if a CT is as good as an MRI in determining tumours?  My ONC sent me for a CT (I had several things bothering me), she said an MRI was better for Brain, but CT was better for other areas?

"if a CT is as good as an MRI in determining tumors"  Hi Shelley:  my guess (and I've had both) is that the CT can rule out any of the cancer spreading to other organs and bone.  But if you are looking for tumors of the breast - a breast MRI is much better.. so it depends on what is going on your doc's head after interviewing you for the "several things bothering" you..  but I'm sure other's will be along soon who will be able to tell you the stats on this..  Also a PET scan is used for looking throughout the body for possible small cancers - but they are very expensive so most doc's will go to a CT first..  Best and I hope everything comes back negative!!!
