i feel guilty asking this question since all of you are going through so much more than i am but here goes...  my sister was recently diagnosed with triple neg invasive ductal carcinoma.  no genetic test yet.  i have read that most brca 1 are triple neg but is the converse true--are most triple neg brca 1?  i am obviously selfish and concerned for myself but also for her daughter and my brother's daughter.  if anyone has any info or links, i would be grateful.

It is true that most BRCA-1 carriers are triple negative, but NOT that most triple negs are BRCA-1. The incidence of BRCA-1 mutations is only about 5% of all breast cancers. Early onset (pre-menopausal), multi-focal or bilateral, and triple negative are the red flags for BRCA-1.

A good source of information is www.facingourrisk.org (FORCE)

Best of luck to your family

As Lisa said, not all trip-neg are BRCA. My mom had bc, I was diagnosed at 40 and decided to go through the genetic testing. I'm not BRCA and they didn't see any unusual things in the strands.
