margins

Hi Ladies,

Until recently I hadn't thought to ask my Oncologist many questions about my BC, but after seeing so many things on the board, I thought I should find out more.

I asked my ONC what my margins were after surgery, she told me 1 1/2 cm for the IDC and 1/2 cm for the DCIS.  She said these were good margins, but I want to be sure??

Also, I asked her about my HER2, she said it was 3, what does that mean?

Hi shelloz1...I have only my own experience to go on with the margins and yours sound quite good. I can't recall mine (it's been 3 1/2 yrs.), but they were about 1/2 cm and my surgical oncologist was pleased. As for your Her2, it sounds like you are decidedly Her2 positive. Some of us received a borderline result of 1 or 2 and had to have further testing, but with a 3, it's clearly over-expressing.
