Clinical Trial B40 - Avastin/Capecitabine/Gemcitabine

Options

Hi Guys,

My Mom was just diagnosed and I just posted the history/diagnosis in the just diagnosed forum. The tumor is a bit larger so the doctors have reccomended neo-Adjuvant therapy to shrink/make the tumor dissappear followed by surgery. My question is as follows:

The doctors are presenting us with a clinical trial. From what I understand, 4 rounds of Taxotere followed by 4 rounds is standard. But the trial involves the following drugs - Capecitabine(which is an oral chemo drug taken on day one of each cycle for 2 weeks), Gemcitabine which would be taken through IV with the Taxotere and AVASTIN which would be added to both the Taxotere and the AC.

We are unsure of what to do. Does anyone have any experience with these drugs? If we choose to do it, the treatment plan chosen would be randomized so we could get the standard Taxotere plus AC, or TX and AC with any other combinations of the other three drugs which could include one, two or all three of them.

The NSABP website shows it a bit clearer than I have explained, but can anyone please shed some light on this for me and my family please? Advice, help, tips - anything!

God bless,

Dean
