MRI false positives

I've got a couple of questions for those of you who have had areas of enhancement on breast MRIs that turned out to be nothing.

1) If you had the area of enhancement biopsied and it was benign, what was the diagnosis?

2) Did you have negative MRIs followed by a suspicious MRI that then turned out to be benign?

I ask b/c I have had three MRIs--one was when I had a known malignancy in the L breast, and one was a screening one last year. Both of those were negative for findings in the R breast. I just went for my latest screening MRI on Monday, and now there is an area of enhancement in the R breast, indeterminate in nature, BIRADS 4a. So I'm off for a biopsy. It's in the upper outer quadrant, which has me a touch freaked out, and it's the only spot in either breast that enhanced (I have extensive PLCIS in the L breast left over after my lumpectomy for PILC, and the PLCIS did not light up).

Any input is greatly appreciated! I'm a touch freaked out.

Ugh, I wish my pos MRI finding had been false!

Just bumping a bit to see if someone can relate, Nash.

Wish mine had been a false positive too.  I actually asked my doctor when she called with the MRI result whether this was likely to be one of those oft-reported false positives.  She came right out and said, sorry, the radiologist doesn't think so.

    Here's hoping yours is B9.

I had 3 mm indetermined enhancement that was too small to biopsy. Had another MRI 6 months later and it was no longer there, they though it was hormonal changes. It's better to do MRI after your period if you still have them.

I also had an MRI that showed something like a tumor that turmed out to be my gall bladder.

MRI really does have very high percentage of false positives.

Thanks, girls. I had this screening MRI done on day 7 of my period--they were very careful to schedule it around my cycle. And unfortunately, they want to do the MRI guided biopsy around my period as well,  so I have to wait until frickin 3/16 for the biopsy. Ugh. My very first MRI that was done when I had a known malignancy was not scheduled around my period, and nothing showed up on the right side. I hoping maybe this is some sort of hormonal change in the tissue brought on by the Tamoxifen. And also this MRI was done on a different machine and read by a different radiologist than the first two.

My onc thinks this is a false positive. I'm not so convinced.
