Hello - curious to see if anyone else reads books by Susun Weed. I've had mastectomy & chemo & now in rads & looking to boost immune & get rid of toxic wastes. I make & use my own milk thistle tincture, am wondering if stinging nettle infusion (now that I can once again tolerate the taste) is a good idea for nourishment & revitalizing the body. wonder if it might be phyto-estrogenic, which in my case is not such a good idea. Saw my new g.p. yesterday & she actually liked this approach!

What toxic wastes do you have in you?

LJ13 -Well, I don't really know. Do you have information on how chemo get metabolized and excreted from the body? I do know that during chemo (FEC) I was told not to have sex with my husband unless using a latex condom, for a week after each treatment. Also that if I brought up, I was not to touch it unless using the latex gloves I was given. The chemo nurse told me that the chemicals usually exit the body in about 48 hours. I ended chemo 6 weeks ago, am now having radiation.

My overall feeling around chemo (which was necessary and I'm glad I had it) was of being poisoned, but as the weeks go on and my taste buds, digestive system etc. begin to return to their former state I feel less so. Still, I'd like to give my body a gentle nourishing hand (this includes exercise and the right foods). what do you think?

I think there are substances that stay in tissue and fat (dioxins, PCBs, heavy metals), and substances that are metabolized, some more quickly than others. I believe chemo is the latter type of substance. After a period of weeks, there should be nothing left in you of chemo.

I agree, it's hard not to feel poisoned when you are getting this type of therapy.

All the good cells that were killed by chemo (hair, mouth, gut) have been replaced by now. Some nerve cells damaged by drugs like Taxol and Taxotere take longer to repair/replace. But that doesn't mean the drugs are still in your system, just that your body is still recovering from their effects.

I think it's a good idea to keep the immune system strong, but I would not go the route of supplements at this time since you're still in treatment (rads). The rad onc should have cautioned against any supplements of any kind. This can compromise the efficacy of this type of treatment. Normal dietary intakes are fine ... no need to restrict anything there. Exercise is one of the best stimulants to the immune system, so whatever you can do there, is good.

Since my diagnosis I have tried to limit my exposure to bad stuff too. I avoid fruits and veggies with the highest pesticide loads or only buy organic versions of them; only eat organic dairy; and strive to eat only organic meats when I can find them. I try to use only the most natural external products (detergents, lotions, etc.).

I think things like detoxes are ineffective.
