Can we have a forum for "older" people with bc?

Chevy -- is it cooler in the early evening? That is when I would pick all those branches up. We are somewhat cooler during the day because the heat builds all day. If we are lucky there is a breeze as well, but it tends to quit in the evening -- so we are never for sure when to do things. I'm very glad no one was on your sidewalk when the branch gave way too. Did it have any hollow spots inside. Maybe it was just becoming unhealthy --- even if the rest of the tree is okay.

We have a tree or two that should come out but just can't afford it right now. Hopefully we are through the majority of our rain for now so we can wait till closer to Fall.

I'm getting a box of books ready, ( all kinds ) to go to Mary Ann's. She sells books second hand and donates the majority of the income from it to animal associations. That is such a great thing to do. I have a lot of cookbooks in the mix as well. Hopefully will be good sellers for her.

Hi Chevy Girl.........cooler here in the Philly suburbs....big storm last night.....quiet today....going to go to the shore a week from tomorrow and staying with my daughter...we will go from next Wednesday for 9 days, and I can either come back home with her, or I can Uber to my sons home wo has a place too.....Michele is in Margate, and my son is in North Wildwood......but my grandson is coming home from Dallas, (reason my daughter is coming back), and I wold also like to see him........Oh decisions, decisions........spent today going to the playground with my great grandson Bobby.....I call him "The Little Prince".....she is my one great grandson among 6 great grandaughters.....LOL....and can't wait tor the new little one coming August 7th......hope its a boy!!!!!!!!...This is my little love...

Awwwwww Ducky..... I remember so clearly, being with my Grand-sons when they were that age.... We were all so close, up until they moved to Orlando when they were starting middle school, and high-school. Such wonderful memories!

Jackie, I asked Vanessa, our next door neighbor if she could come help us for a minute! She came over with Cosmo, her little Miniature Poodle, and the 3 of us carried the last big "log" out back, to lay beside the ditch.... They will come clean it up.... I mean the City.... So it is DONE! GEEZ, it could have been so much worse, when it came down.

With all the hail & wind, and storms we were having, it's a wonder more branches didn't break off... So it really was a surprise when this one fell!

Glad you had a bit of help. That was a lot of wood. If I'd have been there since I'm so young and spry -- I would have moved it all out back for you. Our last storm, that was Saturday night, we basically didn't lose more than a couple very small twigs. It was the people in town who go the real issues. Those straight line winds are as bad as a tornado. I'm glad you are okay and hopefully the rest of your limbs will stay up in your trees.

This is Bobby's new sister....he asked me today "Nannie, can we send her back now".......LOL.......she is 3 weeks old....I'm guess 3 weeks was long enough for him...Her name is Genevieve....the 6th Genevieve ...My grandmother, mother, me, my daughter, my grandaughter, and now my great grandaugher.

Cool, even chilly today (gonna wear a jacket when I leave for the gym in a few minutes—my PCP wants my trainer to do PT exercises for my T-spine & muscles, despite the fact I still hurt). Had mammo today: the girls are fine—Thelma (L) is BIRADS 1 (no abnormalities except her huge size) and Louise (R), my bc breast, is down from BIRADS 3 (probably benign) in Dec. to 2 (definitely benign) now, due to seroma shrinking dramatically. Mammo R side only this coming Dec., bilateral in a year. What’s driven me nuts for the past hour is that my patient portals for N.Shore & Presence aren’t talking to each other and each of my docs wants results & reports from the other. N.Shore lets me send up to 3 attachments, but Presence doesn’t allow attachments. Dueling fax machines are the next step, I guess…even though it’s 2017, not 1997!

Glad you got a good "picture". The only kind to have Sandy. Did I say ( I forgot ) I have to wait for awhile to get my results. Carbondale, Il didn't send my previous pics plus reports to the hospital here -- so no results till the Carbondale ones get here. Drat !! I would be beside myself but sometimes things don't work out smoothly. I think the Dexa was done today, but I'm not in a huge hurry for that either. Maybe a week or so. Hopefully, not more.

Adorable! Don't you just love em when they are so small and cuddly. They grow so fast!

Dh is 80 tomorrow. Having a small surprise party at his daughters. Birthday present is his second cataract surgery on thurs. Had to postpone it in April, as we both had the cold from Hell. This was the first opening they had.

Still have the windows open tonight, had a lovely day today, after swimming in the humidity and storms the past few days. Lost our morning dove nest, don't know if it was the storm or a hawk, as we didn't find any babies around. Felt so bad for mama and pop, sitting in the birch tree , wondering where they were.

thanks Bonnets......she is tiny....6lbs 3 oz. when she was born.....so she is a little one....we all tend to have big babies....so that to us was tiny......2 of my grandcihildren were big.....my Grandson was 11lb 12 oz....23 1/2 inches long, and his sister was 11lbs 14 oz....and 22 inches long....biggest in the family....so Genevieve to us is tiny.......

MO is more worried about the slowly declining hemoglobin coupled with normal-everything-else than is my PCP. He (PCP) wants me to re-test after a month off NSAIDs, COX-2 inhibitors, and baby aspirin. She (MO) might order a smear to test for atypical blood cells—looking for a myeloid disorder (myeloma, MDS, even leukemia). I once heard a saying: “when oncologists go looking for cancer, they usually find it.” Just when my breasts decided not to kill me, my blood might. Ugh. Maybe there’ll be a weight loss...

Sandy --- I'm going to be interceding on your behalf that nothing is found and it turns out to be something easily adjusted for a fix-up. It is enough I think that everyone here ( after original dx ) have to keep a vigil for the possibility -- especially since few, if any, are really thinking the dx in advance. It is always something though and I have fingers crossed as well as other measures.

I am not a happy camper right now. Back in late Feb, I think I told you all that my sciatica was causing me some pain. I tried to see my regular doctor about it. Both times I had to see the PA, because the Dr had no openings. The second time, she had to ask him before she could prescribe more Percocet, and the Dr said I would have to see him before he would ok another Rx. I had six weeks of physical therapy, six weeks with the chiropractor, and a round of steroids Seemed to be getting a little better. I had some good days and some bad ones. Never knew what set it off. I think flying to Ga and back, and holding the babies was part of why it flared again. Problem is, it came back with a vengeance. Really bad! So much so that I went to the ER on Mon. They gave me more Percocet ,prescription strength Advil, and a muscle relaxant. They suggested an MRI. I think they thought I was just looking for pills.

So I came home and called to schedule the MRI and she couldn't scghedule that till I got a referral from the Dr. Again, the last time I was there, he told the PA that the MRI was the next step. His office said that he said I needed to see him first. By this time I am crying because the pain was so bad. They finally found a cancellation at 3:30 this afternoon. The MRI has an opening at 6pm tonight, but if someone else wants it, but they can't put my name down without the Dr's referral.

Meanwhile, I am a mess. I can just barely walk. I have never had such intense pain. And there is nothing that can help. I am hoping they can give me a shot of some kind to relieve the pain. The most frustrating part is that there is no way I can sit, stand or lie down to ease it. I can't even do the exercises I'm supposed to be doing because of the pain in my right leg. Sleeping is close to impossible, because every time I move, the sciatica screams again.DD in Ga said I should go up there so she can take care of me. I told her that I cannot fathom that airport right now.And to make it even better, when I was getting dressed this morning, I face planted into my closet. Probably gonna have some significant bruises, but that's that. It doesn't help that I am afraid to move, because I don't know what sets it off.

I'm sure I have other things to tell you, but I am totally, not by choice, immersed in this pain. And at the back of my mind, I am so scared they will find cancer again. No logical reason, but can't forget that either.

Hopefully I will have a plan to fix this mess the next time I stop by.

I think the person was right who said having cancer is like double-crossing the Mafia and getting away with it. You never stop looking over your shoulder. I hope there are benign causes that are easy to fix for Anne and Sandy.

Babies over 10lb are a marker for later diabetes. DD's were 11 and 12 lbs (C-section) and she does have diabetes now. I don't know if there's any way of heading it off if you know ahead. Her younger son looked like a slab of bacon as an infant. Now he's trim and good looking.

I had sciatica with my first pregnancy. It was a bitch. Sending healing thoughts.

My daughter's GYNO has her A1c checked everytime she goes to him.........she watched her weight, and is very thin..I think too thin..but she is 5ft 8.inches so that could be why she looks so thin.....funny thing is my grandaugher who is now 17 is 5ft 10 and weighs 130....and my grandson 19 is 6ft 3, and weighs 180......and they say huge babies end up obese teens...not true in this case......I had a friend whose son was 12 lbs 6 ounces....and not a C section...can you imagine that.........my biggest was the mother of the 2 almost 12 lb kids, and she ws 9lbs 4 ounces......and her husban, their faather, was 9lbs 6 ounces......and so i goes...

I think they didn't want mothers to gain very much weight when I was having kids in the 60's. My OB gave me a list of things I had to eat. By the time I was done with all the healthy food I was too full for junk food. I didn't gain with pregnancy. 3lbs up with 1 3lbs down with another. Of course, I was a little overweight to begin with.

Anne, I'm wishing and sending hopeful positive energies that this is a 'normal' issue that has a consequence harsh pain and that they will be able to find an excellent fix for this. You have suffered enough with all that you have been through. Sending lots of love and hugs as well.

I had small babies. First one ( a boy ) I gained 35 pounds and lost about that much the day he was born. Daughter, I gained only 8 pounds ( though just like the first time I couldn't see my feet for the last three months ) and lost all of it the day she was born. I was thin myself and stayed that way all of my life just about. Got overwt. but in my mid 60's but now early 70's slowly taking it off. My son is slim, but my daughter weighs more than she should.

Yeah - I've heard the story that larger babies will ensure you becoming diabetic. Wrong for me - both Sons were over 10 lbs and both C-section - I'm not even close to be a diabetic at 70 y/o.

There was some research being done back when I carrying 2nd Son because I had been hospitalized with 1st Son before he was born due to pre-eclampsia then to see if those who dealt with pre-eclampsia were more likely to develope high BP in later years. I still have BP well within the normal range.

I did gain some weight during pregnancy but Drs had no problem with it. I was not given a list of what to eat - my usual diet was considered fine. There was no way I was about to worry about my weight. My Mom had been an aneorxic and bragged that she had weighed 112 lbs when I (8lb 8oz) was born.

When my daughter had the first big boy she gained ridiculous amounts of weight....yet she ate nothing but a perfect diet.....she was 198 lbs when she delivered him...up from her normal weight of 125.....within 1 month after delivery she was down to 120 lbs.......her daughter she was 205 at delivery...2 months later back to 120.....she amazed me.....and till today is still very slim.....

During my day we were told no more then 20/25 lbs...I went from 99lbs to 119 with my first and he was 8 1/2 lbs...had 5 more.....LOL....wish I was 119 again......NOT.....

I wish it were iron deficiency, but my iron levels (as well as folate, ferritin, D and B12) are normal. Not bad enough for a transfusion (not by a long shot), but I’m not hypovolemic either. Something’s going on in my “blood factory,” so to speak. Now that my breasts have decided, “nah, we’re not gonna kill her,” my bone marrow might be saying “hang on—we’ve got this.” I’m actually praying for a GI bleed, because the alternative cause is something I prefer not to contemplate.

I’ve heard of MDS being caused years after breast cancer by chemo & radiation, but I didn’t get chemo and I got only 3 weeks of radiation.

2013 I had a visit to the ER which they thoght was appendix....it wasn't the Dr. in the ER said "you have a Mass in your colon".....Ok I have colonoscopies every 3 years....so I thought ell my GI guy either missed something or this guy is a lunitic......short story...it was severe inflamation that they finally called Ischemic colitis...have not had a problem since..anyway...when they were doing the CT scan to look for appendicitis they covered my boobs with a mat........I said "what is that for", even though I knew.......she said "you had breast cancer right".....I said "yes".....her anser.....well then we have to cover your breasts for the CT scan........I said are you kidding me......do you have any idea how many CT scans I have had for all kinds of shit.....gall bladder, stomach, liver, etc.....not to mention 38 radiation treatments.......and all of a sudden I have to be covered for a CT scan of my appeneix......

God knows how many things we have done over our lifetime and have had the shit radiated out of us......I remember when they said "oh CT scans give the least amount of radiation....less then an X-Ray...........hmmm, that isn't what they are saying today.......so honestly......I am a beliver in "the cure can kill you", and if not, it sure as hell makes you feell like your dying.......but we're still here, so I guess that accounts for something......

OK - who besides me remembers Buster Brown & his dog? Before we got our new shoes for school in the fall, we stepped up on that neat X-ray machine that showed all of our feet bones. They were in all the shoe stores, at least No.California. Boy that was fun. Extra rays to entertain the kiddies.
