People who take the risk make a tremendous discovery: The more things you care about, and the more intensely you care, the more alive you are. This capacity for caring can illuminate any relationship: marriage, family, friendships--even the ties of affection that often join humans and animals. Each of us is born with some of it, but whether we let it expand or diminish is largely up to us. To care, you have to surrender the armor of indifference. You have to be willing to act, to make the first move.

Lynn, I have not heard that theory on lumpectomy versus mx. I had a bilateral in 2009 because I chose to get rid of breast tissue and not have any more mammograms. Good luck with getting info and making your decision. Hugs.

My new computer eyeglasses arrived today and I drove down to the eye dr. to get them. Here they are:
They're purple acetate with titanium arms, really lightweight. And the prescription is perfect for reading and computer (though not for TV watching)--much sharper & clearer than my all-purpose progressives. This was taken with the selfie camera on my phone.

Nice! You really have a wardrobe of glasses now.
-
like your new glasses, 🤓😎
I am now overwhelmed with all my glasses and even more the eyeglass cases
-
Nice, Sandy!
At night I have three pairs of glasses on my chair side table. Readers for computer. Distance with readers for watching tv and embroidering or crocheting. Distance glasses for tv when I'm tilted back in my chair.

The kind of work we do does not make us holy but we may make it holy. However "sacred" a calling may be, as it is a calling, it has no power to sanctify; but rather as we are and have the divine being within, we bless each task we do, be it eating, or sleeping, or watching, or any other. Whatever they do, who have not much of God's nature, they work in vain. -Meister Eckhart

Sandy -- I really like your glasses. Good picture of you too. As for extra glasses and old glasses -- I think one of the organizations ? Elks maybe, you can drop off your old glasses and they are I think rehabbed for people who can't afford glasses. I don't know what the procedure to do this is, but I get rid of my old glasses this way. I do however keep hold of some of my cases -- some are not very good, but others are highly usable for sunglasses. I have sunglasses that attach to my regular glasses. I use to buy the BOGO-type highly reduced second set of glasses and have sun lenses in them, but around here ( Sears did it more than anyone ) Sears is pretty much out of business so I chose the clip on type. The Optometrist at Walmart helped pick out ones that fit perfectly and didn't change the 'color' of things once you had them attached.
-
It's the Lion's Club that takes old glasses. I worked for someone who went to South America with the Lions to give people the glasses. He said they had tears of joy because they could continue to work with glasses. Our senior center had a box to leave them for the Lions.
Old eyeglass cases make great pencil holders for sketching. The ones with the clip can fit on the front of the sketchbook so they're always handy. The open top ones are good for keeping scissors in line. I've even bought eyeglass cases at Goodwill.

Thanks Wren. As soon as I read it " it came to me" which is always the way it works for me. Sigh !!! Still, I always felt it so worthwhile. Oh the days before glasses that were so nice. Took it somewhat for granted because I mainly didn't know better. Big thyroid ills pretty much did me in for sight issues. So all I had to hear was that someone else could use glasses I couldn't anymore.
Same thing with ears. Never thought much about things till I couldn't hear well. Now the blessing of glasses and hearing aids if boundless to me. Just wow on the many things old eye glass cases can do. My cases always stayed in excellent shape because with my eyesight -- I don't go w/o my glasses period.

Hello all,
FromGramma- I was never offered a lumpectomy, but chose a dbl mastectomy because I had several scares with the left breast over the years and didn't want to live with that fear. My Drs decided to do chemo first, then surgery, and when I saw my Onc for a checkup in Jan, she said my chances of getting cancer again are no higher than someone who has never had cancer. And it would be a new cancer, not metastatic, because I was cancer free before they did the surgery. I also did not opt for reconstruction- just didn't want to go thru more surgeries and/ or complications.
The repairs on the house are done! All that is left is painting the back patio. We finally found someone who tried several ways to clean our driveway and front and back patios, but nothing worked to my satisfaction. So, he suggested painting the pavers- they look really good, better than I had hoped.
My daughter in Lake Placid, Fl moved to a new house last weekend. New to them, but really old and run down. But it is larger than the apt was, and has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I went up the weekend before last to help. I booked a hotel room, but found out when I got there that the price of the room varied each day and Sat night it was over $200. Thankfully when my daughter heard that, she said they would move the kids' beds over the next day, so I could cancel the hotel and stay at the house. My helping consisted of mainly of keeping their 2 yr old out of the way. Can't think of anything I would have enjoyed more. She has just started talking and we had many one word conversations all day. My daughter and SIL couldn't believe I got her to nap in my arms every day, without any protest on her side. I also got to spend time with my DGS. Best part of the move is that there is a boy right across the street that is the same age as my grandson. Kayden is 9 and has never had a friend outside of school because of the places they have lived.
The first night, he asked me if I would read to him at bedtime. I'm sure it was just a delaying tactic, and he fully expected me to say no. I said sure and read to him (and his 12 yr old sister) for 10-15min. By then he was more than halfway asleep. Now that I am back home, he calls every night between 7:30- 8:30 and I read to him. I also had a chance to ask his dad about Kayden spending the summer here, and he was all for it.
I am out of Hurricane mode, and back into travel mode. I went to a wedding in Tampa 2 weeks ago, then to my daughter for 5 days. A week from this coming Friday, I am picking up my daughter at the airport from Atlanta, and we are heading straight to Lake Placid so she can visit with her sister and family in their new house. She has alWays been very close to Jamie and extremely close to Jamie's kids. We will come back to my house late Mon afternoon, and she will fly home Tues. That Fri, I will fly to her in Atlanta. I could have just flown back with her Tues, but I promised my friend I would travel with her, and show her how to use the public train transportation system. I have not set a return date because I promised my son's daughter that the next time I visited I would spend at least one full weekend there. Probably going to spend at least a week in both Atlanta and Charlotte. Somewhere in there, my youngest son will be leaving for the AirForce boot camp. Not sure I can handle that goodbye. He is planning on having a 20 career in the military, which means more long distant grandchildren & more traveling for me. Until my daughter moved to Atlanta, I had daily contact with the five grandchildrhave I had at the time. Now I have 8 grandchildren with daily access to only one.
Hope everyone is doing well,
Anne

Anne, so glad that your daughter has a real house and Kayden now has a friend!
Jackie, Wren--when I have frames that are out of style, with an older prescription in them, I drop them off in the Lions Club bin at LensCrafters. But Warby Parker actually donates a new pair for every pair you buy. I plan to gradually (maybe one pair every couple of weeks) get that left lens replaced in each of my "fun" frames that I wore most often before my prescription changed. Warby doesn't replace progressives in frames you'd previously bought from them (their computerized lab's not set up to do that): I would have to buy a new pair in that style with my new prescription...at the original price. And that's assuming the frame is still being made in that color (which my Warbys aren't). They will replace or install single-vision lenses in their frames you own--but the price is higher than a new pair of lenses & frames. But there's an independent optical shop near me that will charge me $80 to change that lens. I will pick out the older frames I like best (Warby, Zenni, those Versace drill-mounts in my avatar) for that--but for the two Warbys I'd have to pay a bit more because the lenses are photochromic and the optical shop might not stock that brand & shade. Otherwise, I might just have plain progressives put in them instead. (The Zennis may not be worth refitting--the most expensive pair cost me $60, all told).

Good morning -- can you tell the sun is out here. Going to get to the 70's the next couple of days. It is a bit of a teaser but okay with me. Much around here is already delightful with that healthy, vibrant green color that shows up to herald the rebirth of all that went dormant for the winter. Know I've mentioned before -- rather than New Yrs., this is the time of yr. I feel like making plans and good resolutions. Have to also admit that sometimes they don't work out a whole lot better than the ones I used to do at New Yrs. time -- but it is nice to let inspiration and feelings of well being take over after the dreariness of a long winter. Though winter actually seemed to have gone faster a bit ( is this my age maybe ) it was tedious at times. So ,
I hope you are all going to have a really great day with sun and feel lots of inspiration.

Jackie, what a beautiful message written in flowers! It made me smile with pleasure.
I'm having a good Wednesday. Played golf this morning. Back home, I did some chores around the house and am helping the washer and dryer do their job.
If we could only have beautiful weather like today and the last few days all summer long, I wouldn't have to leave home and go north.
Happy Wednesday to all.

One has to abandon altogether the search for security, and reach out to the risk of living with both arms. One has to embrace the world like a lover. One has to accept pain as a condition of existence. One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing. One needs a will stubborn in conflict, but apt always to total acceptance of every consequence of living and dying. -Morris L. West

Windows open, and wonderful breezes running in through the windows. So nice to air things out in here. Raked some leaves ( left-overs ) into small piles to mulch later on and this afternoon I gave my car a good wash, including floor mats and put Amour-All everywhere I could. Washed windows inside and out and polished the wheels. It is looking much, much better, inside and out. Was wonderful to be outside in that beautiful breeze too.
The downside was that there was very little shade anywhere. Definitely not optimum for car washing and polishing but to me the car wash is a 'only' if you have too sort of thing because you can't get much detail out of it. Not like you are able to at home. I'm notorious for not liking the way anyone else details my car. Then again, my first couple of times after the winter I'm not likely to do great. I have to get back in stride.
Hope you are all able to enjoy some pretty Spring-like weather.
-
We made it into the 60s today, even by the lake. A bit cooler tomorrow, cool & wet Sat. and downright raw & wintry-mix-y Sun. Seriously considering staying over Sat. night at the O'Hare Hilton so I won't have to go outside to get to the terminal (nor deal with snow & sleet slowing my Uber).
-
Our forecast is for storms on Saturday with the possibility of some severe weather.
Sandy, that sounds like a good plan. Be safe.
Jackie, you're making me envious that your car is so clean!
-
It's 50 here and forecast says rain Fri, Sat, Sun and showers on Mon. I wonder if they tape the forecast so they don't have to keep saying the same thing.
In Hawaii on the big island, the forecast for one area was exactly the same every day. DS would say it along with the radio.

Carpenters are here so I'm late -- but wow, the new doors are looking so good. I'm sure we will be so very happy. One of the old doors will be used for the garage I think which is fine. Elsewise we would just throw them out. I also think despite its being warm, we may get some rain blown in this afternoon. It has been windy for the last two days. You might know -- but still glad I did my car. It I dust it down after I use it hopefully the rain most make too many seeable rivulets on it.
Loved the story about the Hawaii weather report that could be given just as easily by your DS Wren. Some days are really just like the others. Well, until they aren't.
Hope you all have a really good day.

Wren, my son who moved to Washington State is visiting us. He is loving the rainless, blue skies and even went swimming in our unheated backyard pool. Brr

Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.Success depends upon using it wisely—by planning and setting priorities. -Denis Waitely

Good morning. It did pour down last night. Weatherman said rain till at least 1 p.m. but it has stopped this morning ( 9:30 a.m. here just now ) and who knows -- it may not re-start witch would be fine with me. Mainly due to a ground still saturated from our last rains. We don't need more right now. Also I will be able to go at the right time and feed my ferals and that would make me happy.
Also have the Charter man coming. T.V. has been acting up ( interference we don't normally have anymore ) so we are thinking a bad wire. During the rain the t.v. was perfect and I'm just going hmmm over that. Otherwise not too much going on for the day. Need to go out later ( after t.v. guy is done ) and get some groceries. There may even be a bit of sun some time this afternoon, but more rain could come in the next few days just as well.
I am looking out at some really beautiful green out of doors. Already starting to lose sight of a couple of the houses a few acres from us that are readily apparent in the winter bareness but disappear when the Spring/Summer foliage returns. Won't be long and we will be in our hide-out back here which is how I like it.
I hope you are all going to have a really nice day and do something fun.
-
Lisa, I'll bet your unheated pool is warmer than any water in WA. I'm amazed at what people swim in here. I'd want a wetsuit.
