Help- Headed to ER- IV Hormones??

Im heading to the ER.  I probably am not anemic yet.  But my Cardios Nurse wants me to go in...Im sure my Cardio Dr will get back to me by Tuesday!  Grrr

But my period has been pretty much non stop for 30 hrs.  Passing Fist size clots. Caused by My Blood thinner Plavix & Aspirin

My New PCP said she really can evaluate me there..>Since If I need a Blood transfusion I will need to go to the Hospital.

She said my best bet would be an IV Hormone to stop my period...And to talk to my Onco about that.  Dh is calling her.

That scares me- What are your thoughts on this IV Hormone to stop my Period??

or a D & C.  Which Cardio doesnt want me to have surgery.

Would a D & C at least stop it for a few months?  And get me through my next 2 months of Plavix?

Maybe if I am in the ER- My Cardio & my Onco can figure out together what to do (not my Cardios Nurse!)

You poor thing.  It seems you have gone through more than most of us with various maladies.

If you are scared of hormones, maybe you should ask about a D&C.  How old are you?  Maybe a hysterectomy would be in order?  I know that Tamoxifen can cause endometrial changes.  Are you on that?  I don't know about AI's.

Pam, my sister has had terrible periods like you are describing. The first time, the put her on hormone pills and it slowed the period down but ended up doing a D&C to stop it and that lasted about a year before it started again. that time the D&C only slowed it down long enough to get her blood back up and they did a hysterectomy, leaving her ovaries. (she hasn't been dx with bc).

    Thanks Ladies.

Well I guess I am like a car with a problem...You bring it in & now it wont make the noise.

my period almost completely stopped when I hit the ER.

My Hemaglobin was 11.2.  Pretty normal for me (I didnt think it would be low that fast anyway)

Plus I take a big Iron daily at the start of my period & I have iron in my Multivitamin.

its why I wanted to go to the Drs Office.  But both Dr & Cardo wanted me in the ER.  Will cost me alot more now, ugh- High deductible.

And since I wasnt anemic -They said lets do nothing.  Fine with me.  They said Hormones were out...But mainly because I was telling the ER dr my history & I forgot I had my 1st Mini stroke 10 years ago from the pill (only had been on it 3 months)  It also made my periods 10 tmes worse...We put me on them to make them better.

The only thing good from yesterday is the ER Dr got my Cardio (yes he actually talked to him)  to agree to have me off Plavix for 2 days.  Will still be on Aspirin to help prevent stroke.

He also told the ER Dr that I am entering the debatable time where I am getting to the safe zone of getting off Plavix.  Makes me very mad because I have said this since I met him 8 months ago....And here he wants me on Plavix til the end of April at least.

Anyway.  Shockingly my period has been normal since I went to the ER.  its like I lost everything in the 1st day & a half!   That would be great.

Who knows what will happen next month.

My Plan is to be off Plavix completely before then.

Im to follow up with my Cardio on Monday.  Funny because his nurse had 3 hrs to get back to me with what he suggested before I went to the ER & never heard anything.

And follow up with my Obgyn on Monday...Why Im not sure.

Just to pass out more $$?

Has anyone discussed uterine abalation?  Procedure that seals uterine surface so bleeding goes away.  Not used for people that may want to get pregnant but has been used for girls with heavy periods.  I think there may be several options that do not include hormones.   Have you googled any options?

Wow it is really ironic that I saw your post literally 5 minutes after I read a chapter in a book called Natural Hormone Balance by Dr. Uzzi Reiss. He was talking about how bad sythetic hormones, specifically sythetic progesterones such as provera are for the heart. When you say they want to inject hormones, make sure you know what kind. After reading this book, I am convinced all these synthetic hormones are very dangerous, but the natural alternatives may be the best thing we can do to prevent bc. This book is very detailed. It goes to great lengths to explain our endocrine system and how important they are to good health. There is a long chapter on Hormones and breast cancer. I highly recommend you read it before you doctors give you anything.

    Hi Gracejon.

I had heavy periods for about 7 years before this.  I had a Uterine Ablation 4 years ago.  I called it succesful because it made my periods normal again.  Drs called it unsuccesful because they were still heavy & 7 days long (heavy after a EA)  but normal for me.

It was discussed a little yesterday.

I also discussed it with my Gyno 3 years ago...And at that time a 2nd Ablation - well there wasnt alot of info on how successful it is the 2nd time around.  i do have a fibroid in the way that probably messed up the 1st Ablation- 3 were removed at that time.

That was a very hard surgery for me also...Im not up to trying it again right now.

Also before my Plavix & Aspirin start my periods were 'normal' for me.  This crap started in June when I went on plavix...They were a litttle better when I went off plavix after 1 month of it & just stayed on Aspirin..Plavix was readded in Dec before my Heart surgery..>So I am hoping after I am off plavix things will settle down- alot!

Ive tried googling for answers & havent come up with much...There is a newer her option that freezes instead of heats...Im sure there arent studies of it after an Ablation.

Im stuck on getting off Plavix.  I took myself off it last June.  Since Cardios nurse would give him my message that I was having severe SE from it (that time)  She told me to call my Onco that it was my Cancer!  7 days after getting off Plavix all my SE were gone....But all that is another story- LOL

I guess I dont like Plavix & from what I have read...Aspirin is just as good 1 month after my PFO closure.

Hi Vivre- thanks for the info-Hormones were ruled out anyway & I wasnt really ready to agree to them either.  Onco was on Stand by to say yes or no to anything they may have suggested.  But they said no to any hormones at the ER.

For those who have been reading about my Heart, Plavix & my period :o

As of tomorrow I am Offical off Plavix.  Dr Pam Said No More!

I have only been taking it every other day for the last month anyway (Dr Pams Ok d that)

I had my PS appt today.  35 Minute drive.  My period had barely started this morning.

When I got there I got out of the truck & well needless to say Im glad we had a navy bath towel in the truck.  I ruined my Nice Jeans

I did not know what to do. Dh went & talked to the receptionist.  And came back out with the idea of a wheel chair to get me to the nearest bathroom.   I could not move Or Id have a bigger mess.  So that is what we did.  I clogged the toilet- Im so Embarrassed.

I left my Picture CD & My Questions for my PS. (he wanted to see my pictures)

PS called us just a few minutes after we got home.  He said to call right after my Cardio appt in Late April.  And we can make an Appt & discuss my surgery day.

I guess I will spend the next few days living in the bathroom. Frown

    Pam
