if attacked by a guy, fight back but don't go for his nuts.  He's been protecting those all of his life.  Instead, smash his nose with the flat of your hand.  It will probably break his nose and might drive bone fragments into his brain thereby killing him.  (Seriously, my old man told me that.)  OMG!

Mom told me to put a dime in my shoe in case I needed to call for a ride home.

I would say the importance of education and how to be a good teacher. My grandmother went to college and taught Latin and Home Ec. before she got married, and taught religious education classes well into her 70s), my mom followed in her footsteps and became an awesome teacher, and I followed in her footsteps and became a teacher too....I got most of my teaching philosophy and many of my techniques from them.

My Dad did not have many good things to say about his childhood.  He said all they did was work, work, work.  Grew up on a farm.  He was a kind and gentle Dad though.
