Glad Opie is doing better.

And Zorro......Well..... He has cancer
, they grade dogs tumors 1,2,3... one being nonmalignant and three being cancer. his were graded a two. he has a 10-15% chance the shoulder tumour will come back but the doc says they usually come back as a lump in the same spot so we can remove it again. the tumour in his scrotum has a 10% chance of coming back and he said it usually show up in the lymph nodes in that area and then goes to the liver, he palpated the lymph nodes and thought they felt good. So once he gets his stitches out he will go on predazone for 3 weeks and that will kill any remaining tumour cells floating around. But he is jumping around like a puppy again and trying to find his toys(which I his until his mouth stitches come out). He is very happy. Kinda make you wonder how strong his pain tolerance is because he never let on that he had any pain. And some of his teeth had to come out because they were bad.

Hey cutie patooties. I know to come here when I need a smile.
Sorry about Zorro's news Lori. But for now he's feeling good and that is wonderful. Our pets live in the moment......wish I had the knack to do the same.

This is what we are doing all daying trying to stay cool. We have broken the all time record for how many days in a row it has stayed over 32 degrees celcius which is about 90 fahrenheit. (Not what we are used to here). According to the news that has only happened her in the ower mainand 3 times since they have keeping temp. records, once in 1928 and twice in 2004, and now this year.

Oh I love this thread. I can't post pix but keep them coming.
Zorro and his cancer at 8 yrs old.
Several years ago, I had a lab mix that developed lymphosarcoma at 3 yrs old. My vet gave her chemo treatments similar to ACT, with prednisone. She had no surgery or radiation. Her protocol was almost exactly the same as mine. LOL
Raven handled her tx very well and lived another 3 yrs. The vet said at the time of dx that she only had 2mths w/out tx. With tx, the vet said maybe 18 mths. She never had any of the SEs that I had, except the weakened heart. Although, her weak heart never slowed her down. We never suspected it. She had an upset stomach maybe 4 times in the entire 3 yrs. She ate regular dog food and for awhile had me and my parents convinced that she needed chicken and rice with veggies every night. We complied happily. One day, my dad walked into the kitchen and smelled the chicken and veggies combo cooking. He got very excited that my mom was fixing something special for dinner. It was too funnny when she had to tell him that it was for the dog.
The day that she crossed the rainbow bridge, she had an appt with the vet for chemo. She woke up happy and raced to the car - she loved my vet. When she arrived at the vet's office, she jumped out of the car. She walked around the front of the car and dropped to the ground. She had a heart attack. She died before she hit the ground. Very quick and painless.
The tx were expensive, but I would not have traded those extra yrs for anything. Luckily, I was flush with cash at the time. Good luck to you and Zorro.

thanks C
Such a sad story but glad she was so happy through everything. The vet figures all Zorro needs is predazone. and he hasn't given us a time limit on his life so I would guess we caught it early. He has been acting like a puppy over the last couple of days very happy.

Here is a pic that I love.

This is DS #2.... We were on the ferry to Victoria B.C. and he figured since the ferry was moving if he jumped into the air he would move back on the ferry. He was 10 at the time.

Lori!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That pic of your son is AWESOME!!!! How did you EVER click right when his feet are off the ground? You'll NEVER be able to do that again.......well, you probably can, but I wouldn't be able to. That's a really cool picture. I love the puppy pics too. You know me with my dachshunds.
So, how is Zorro feeling today? I'm so glad it was too bad for him.
Hey Jane and C, Arnie, Elaine, Sharon, Mum, Faithie, Kathleen

Lm...great pic!!

Lori,
It is amazing how much easier the pets handle chemo than we do. When I started my protocol, I thought that my surgery would be the worst thing that I had to face. I figured that I would handle the chemo as well as my Raven did. I wish! She never knew that she was sick. The vets treated her tx as spa days. She had a baby crib for a hospital bed and even when she had to have hours long infusions, she was spoiled rotten by the vet and her staff. She had her own blankie and toys with her. She really began to feel that she was a queen.
At the time I had another dog, same age, Bloomers, - a border collie/lab mix. Both were rescues from the mines where I worked. They looked like twins, when I had Bloomers' hair cut. My parents had 4 other dogs at the same time. Raven had the star treatment every day. It is a wonder that the other dogs didn't get jealous. But they have each gotten their chance. I lost my Bloomers last year on Valentine's Day. She was 12.
I know that they had good lives and were happy. I still miss them. I have had so many animals over the years, when I cross the Rainbow Bridge to see them, I will have to spend a year just saying hi to them all again. LOL!
I hope Zorro is in great shape. They are much more resilient than we think! Hugs to everyone's animals!
