IBC in NY.. Any recommendations?
Hi All!
I am 33, new to this site and am amazed at the support, recommendations and advice you all have. My question is how did you find a Dr that specializes in IBC? I am looking for someone and am fortunate enough to be as close to NYC and some of the best medical professionals in the world. The problem is seeking someone who really knows IBC. I have been told to go to Houston but is that necessarily the right course of action? Any advice is much appreciated

You have come to the right place! My mom was diagnosed with IBC in October and this has been a haven for me for sure. I think you should start with the local cancer society and they should be able to guide you in the right direction. I can imagine that living in NYC you will have some excellent options.

I haven't started a treatment plan yet and actually I am waiting on my last biopsy for formal diagnosis. I've been scrambling the past week to educate myself about IBC after my Dr. told me that's what he thought I had. There is still a chance that it could be something else but in the event that it turns out that it is IBC, I just wanted to be educated as to my options. Shopping for an IBC Dr. has been tough. I should know the results tomorrow and am not sure at all what I'm in for. So glad I found this board!

Caalley I read that you may have IBC. Sorry to hear but if you do hopefully you caught it early before it spread. What were or are your syptoms that brought you to think you had IBC. I am trying to see from other people what their symptoms are. It does not seem like every one person has has what the lists say. Everyone varies a bit. I go to the breast surgeon here soon and hope that they dont turn me away . Any info would help. My thoughts are with you and hope your news is good and not bad. Best Wishes Hope09

I am seeing a woman surgeon who only specializes in breast cancer. I was diagnosed Dec. 18,2008 but at the time my doctor was almost postive that I had ibc. I had to have another biop done and sure enough, Jan. 2, I got the news. I not only have ibc, I also have idc all in one breast. It did spread a little to my lymph nodes under my arm, but luckily hasn't spread anywhere else. My oncologist recommended me to have 4 ac treatments and 3 taxotere treatments before I have surgery. That will be in May or June. I had my 1st chemo Jan.23 and am due for 2nd one this Fri.
