Need someone to talk to
I am 59 and a 6 year survivor, since my moms passing I really have noone other than my husband and son, who listen, but dont understand. There are times when I just cry, when I wish I could just connect with someone who knows what I am going through, the thought in the back of your mind that "it" is always with you, lurking in the dark waiting, everytime you get a pain, you think is "it" back? I am on a 26 acre farm, a quarter mile in the woods, with just my animals and no neighbors, my animals are starting to get bored with me talking their ears off, ha, ha. So once in a while it would be nice to have someone who understands the mental side of this disease, just be there.

You have come to the right place ....Talk away and the people on these threads will listen and answer any questions you may have.
Hugs to you, Artsee

You talk all you want Winding. This is a great place to meet with those who really do understand how you feel. Don't forget to try the "Chat" sometime too. You might find that is also helpful.
There are many different boards here..........you will find lots of us feel exactly the way you do.
And at least your animals don't interrupt you.
-
I understand what you are talking about, I am a 5 year survivor and always have that little nagging thought that it may come back. But we can't let it run our life. I too live in the country and love it. I only have dog and cats though. Animals always listen but they can't understand or talk back. I would love to talk to you anytime you want. The ladies here are here for you 24/7. Tell us more about yourself, did you have a lumpectomy or mastectomy? Did you have Chemo? Rads? Is your family supportive? Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing, gentle hugs, sherry
-
Hi, Winding. I am 54 and a 5 year survivor. You are right when you say it's hard to find someone who REALLY understands. You found us!!!!!!! Come here anytime and ask any question, verbalize any thought, express any fear, and you will know you will find a sister here who has been through the same thing or thought the same thought. WELCOME!
-
Thank you all for being so kind and understanding. I had a lumpectomy, chemo and Rads, breast reconstruction was done at the same time as my operation. My family is very supportive, if it were not for my husband, I would never have gone to the doctor. Early in May of 2002 I noticed an indentation under my rt breast, never thought about cancer, no lump so I never mentioned it, as time went on I got a little scared and told my husband, he called the doctor without me knowing, called me from work and told me to be ready, the doctor was waiting and she would wait till I arrived, no matter how long it took him to get me there. Well the rest is history. I went to the Cleveland Clinic and had a fantastic team of doctors and I am still a survivor.I really owe my life to my husband of 35 years and thank him for his love and concern.
-
What a wonderful story. God bless your husband. I know you have a son but do you have grandkids yet? do you see see the oncologist yearly? Do you have to take arimidex or tamoxofen? I am so happy that you are a 6 year survivor. When those thought start creeping up come on here and we will put your mind at rest. hugs

-
Yes, if your new you can only post 5 times in a 24 hour period. By next month you'll be able to post all you want. Yes, I have had a very good day today. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, try not to worry too much.
-
Will be waiting to hear from you, hope you are doing better and not worryin so much

I am still here whenever you need someone to talk to.

Good morning, life has a better outlook for me, since I know I have somewhere to turn to when I am down. I just came in from the barn, playing with 4 baby goats, lifts the spirit. My animals have made a big difference in my outlook. It is -8 and I cant wait for spring. Hope everyone is having a good day, spar2, thanks for all your support.
-
You are very welcome, I know how you feel, my animals make me feel happier too. So glad you are having a better outlook, you deserve it. Growing up my parents had a goat ranch, they are so much fun to watch play. They also kept the weeds ate down so we didn't even have to mow after a while. Enjoy life.
-
Wingway- good to see you back! How sweet to have baby goats to watch and play with! I had found our dog extremely difficult and anything but relaxing; I was very lucky to find her a new home--just perfect for her, makes me feel better knowing she is being very well cared for. Just had to put the cat down, and I really miss her. I am thinking of getting another, family is ok with it. Maybe this weekend.
Hope you are all having a good day and that it warms up a bit (maybe a lot!) Where is Randolph? I went to school in Athens (Loved Ohio- would have stayed if I had been able to find a job).
Happy weekend to all-
-
Hi Windingway - Glad to hear you are feeling better. Just the thought of your baby goats makes me want to kiss them all!
BTW - I am in Ohio as well.
You take care of yourself.

Hi Windingway.
I live in UK and we have a farm. I am 6 years out this coming May. I spend most of my time with my animals. We have cows, calves, beef cattle. I have a few sheep, not as many as I would like, I can't handle them easily now, and DH does not like sheep. We have going on 3000 hens, all free range...now I don't like hens, they are DHs thing. I have 2 pet goats, and my main thing zillions, or so it seems, of dogs. Dogs, dogs, dogs everywhere. I still breed occasional litters of puppies, and used to have a large dog boarding kennels...I gave this up as soon as I was diagnosed, but I am slowly, very slowly starting to take in the odd boarder now and then, I keep going into my empty kennels and thinking shall I, shalln't I !! I think it will end up with me starting again this season, but in a very much smaller way, so that I don't need to employ anyone.
I also have various birds, budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds 2 parrotts,I am just a sucker for anything looking for a home, it takes me almost half a day to get round everything....and at the pace I work these days I can do it all in my own time. We have land, growing corn and oilseed rape and make thousands of bales of hay and silage, for winter feed. My kids have flown the nest, so the farm is my life. I'm not a big joiner, and I don't go out a lot. I have all I want at home. I also have grandchildren coming to see me most days of the week, so its nice to be able to let them 'help' me.
Hope you are feeling a bit better now, you can come here as often as you want to chat, there is always someone who is willing to listen and to talk, and you will find things are a lot easier when you can share them.
Isabella.

Just wanting you to know anytime you feel the need to talk we are here.
-
Hey there. I am one who no longer has to look over her shoulder. But I have broad shoulders to take your burden for a little while. But I will want to pet the goats. I love goats. And cats. And dogs. Oh and horses (the little velvet patch on their nose). And geese. You get the picture. Im a city girl. Visiting farms with my girl guides were very memorable camps. Hope you make a lot of new friends and I hope you count me as one of them. I like Red Pandas too..... hence the avatar

Good morning everyone, been really busy this past week or so, finally able to get to the computer. Isabella, I also breed Old English Sheepdogs, we just drove down this weekend to West Virginia to meet and deliver a puppy to a family from North Carolina. I am expecting a litter around April 1st. I sell my pups with a return contract and guess what, I had 3 returned this past week, one family lost their home and the other had 2 of my pups, found their 3 daughters had an allergy to the OES. I am in the process of rehoming the pups. I now have a total of 11 sheepdogs, thank goodness I have 26 acres and a kennel or my husband would be packing his bags.
I have 5 horses, 2 my husband gave me for our first Christmas in the new home, I bred my mare and we now have a 3 yr old filly and then this past July, I gave my husband 2 horses for his birthday. We have only 5 chickens left, so we are planning our spring purchase and are going to get some exotic chickens as well as 2 peacocks.
I unfortunately, do not have any grandchildren, yet. We have only lived on the farm for 4 yrs and being tucked in the woods, not many close neighbors and new to the area not many friends. It was hard going from an area we lived in for 30 yrs and almost everyone knowing you to being an outsider, but we are doing some things like joining a gym and making some new friends.
Dreamwriter, thank you also, I am honored to count you as one. I hope noone gets bored, but I love to talk about my animals, so if anyone has any questions about any, fire away. Oh, I also have a yard cat, who cuddles up with Pete, one of my sheepdogs and they sleep together every night. I have a picture of kit kitty, pete and one of my chickens eating out of the same bowl, Oh, only if people could get along as well as the animals here do, the world would be a better place.
Well time to go out and start feeding everyone. Have a great day.

Raye99, where abouts in Ohio? I am in Randolph, we are south of Akron, but befor Canton, its a small farming community.
-
Good morning windingway....the word ANIMALS caught my attention:) I love every kind that God created!!! Would love to see some of your pics if you're able to post online.
These boards are really comforting because you're able to relate to others who are going through the same thing. It's been a lifesaver for me.
oh!!! I would LOVE to live on a farm!!! I even love the smell of old barns, etc....don't want to get too gross
Hope you have a great day!
-
Coonie, nothing gross about the smells on a farm, atleast not to me. I love the smell of the horses especially. The farm we purchased has a house that is now only 7 yrs old and the barn is just a pole barn, we would have loved to have a century barn, but no such luck. I think the old barns have such character, when I got sick, we decided that it was time to make our dream of having a farm come true, since we found time was too short and precious to put off doing what you really want from life. I would love to share some pics with you, if I could figure out how to post them, not a great computer wizard, plus we have only dial up, which really stinks, takes forever to download.
Hope you have a great day.
Does anyone find that if your animals dont like someone, those people are ones you should be cautious of??
-
So true windingway! Animals can sense the good from the bad I think. I've always said that some animals are smarter than some people.
Hey! Maybe this dog can help you download pics.
-
so good to hear from you again. I will never get bored listening to you talk about your animals. I am pretty bad that way myself. I will have to post the picture of my cat wanting me off the computer and petting her instead. You sound better and more cheerful. We are here for you. hugs Sherry.
When my duck was alive she was so spoiled, here she is swimming in the kiddy pool

Hi, really enjoyed your pics. Hope everyone is doing well, had more snow and cold, so sick of it, cant wait for spring to get here.
can someone tell me how to post a picture, other than the dog, having some trouble understanding him, ha, ha.
Been a little preoccupied, husband lost his job Friday, been e mailing re'sume's all over the place, not much computer time with him underfoot. -
Oh wwf, so sorry to hear about dh. Hope things straighten out quickly.
I agree with the cold, not that I am big fan of the heat, but warm spring days where I can sit outside would be lovely about now.
I can't quite figure out how to put up pictures either. and help would be appreciated. Did sign up w/photobucket but thats as far as I got.

wwf - so sorry to hear your news about DH. {{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}
and ya'll.....I would embarrass myself if I started explaining how to post pics.
I think Julz or Spar taught me how to post them. I do find all of mine on
www.photobucket.com, but you have to shrink this page to go to photobucket, then back to this page and there's some "copy" and "paste" you have to do. If I could do it in person, I think I could show you how
Maybe Julz or Spar will come along.....they're great teachers.
-
Hi Windingway! I'm from Ohio too...not too far from you, I'm in the North Canton area. I'm new to this board but not new to cancer. Next week is three years since my diagnosis. I'm with you on the "lurking" worries. I'm having trouble shaking those myself. Sorry to hear about your husband's job. Seems our area is really getting hit hard. My husband and my jobs are safe but it is getting harder and harder to make ends meet. Hope tomorrow brings better things! (Sure hope it will be warmer!)
-
Hi Tea42, nice to meet someone so close. Congrats on the 3 yr mark, I am relatively new to this group, just thought it might be nice to communicate with others in the same position. I know this area is really hurting, he was a service director in a car dealership, the car business is really going down hill and at 57 not much chance of a new career, he was a part time police officer for 20 yrs, but I do not want him going back to that, I had more than my share of him being gone on the weekends and holidays. I dont think its ever going to get warm here, they claim 56 by Sunday, but that will probably change. What kind of work do you do? I know the price of food and just everyday living is increasing faster than the pay checks. Have a great day.
